Well I just tested the hair dryer on the solar system to get a reading on the actual load it's using and it's only using 13 amps @110v which = 1430 watts..
I did the test assuming the hair dryer was using 1875 watts like it said on the tag...
So that means the meter is over charging me even more than I thought..

I've got the electric board arriving tommorrow morning to fit a digital electric key-meter.. otherwise I was 'defintely' getting cut-off! I've to pay back £10 a week to pay off my £600 bill. It was iniitally for £1500, then £1000.. after I went to the authorities to complain about such a large bill for just a 1 bed flat! But.. now it's £600.. which is still a huge amount.. considering I'm not working yet..! I only get £60 a week to live on.. & have to pay all that money.. plus whatever I use in the meanwhile. Good thing it's summer now.
So..! it's not just me then.. getting large bills..!! they're really ripping us off arent' they?!!.. greedy selfish lot..!
As soon as I start work in a few weeks.. the sooner the better.. far as I'm concerned.. well..?! depending on how my lorry driver training course goes & IT course pans out.
.. i'm going to purchase a 12 volt to 240volt/50hz voltage converter. Then buy the very expensive!!! low charge batteries.. which I'll just build up on. Then.. get some solar panels.. too! Can get them for £20 quid now..
I'm still 'learning' how to set-up a wind turbine.. but need to learn more technical stuff like how the 'charging regulator' & generator works. Not sure if it's best to use AC or DC, AC/DC.. (err..wee joke!), brushless/induction or using brushes?! Has anyone on here built their own system? Does anyone recommend what type of motor I should go for.. whether AC, DC, single or 3 phase..?! what's the best system..? I've got a single phase AC motor..but, dunno..!?
Here on GLP & on Utube have been looking at 'alternative' power generation.. using permanent magnets. I made a very small one.. like the one I saw on youtube.. & Wow..!! yeah it works. It's a bit tricky.. but I got up to several volts of power.. on my digitial multi-meter.. it lit up a torch bulb.. just from some 'small' magnets & one large speaker magnet. But.. nowhere 'near.!!' enuff juice to run a flat.
My flat is too small to even experiment with a 'water to hydrogen engine' conversion.. but now have ALL the details I need to build one. I've already got some of the electronic bits like the 555 timer/passive components.. which I've used many times in the past to build timing projects like xmas tree light flashers & alarms etc..
Has anyone had any success out there building this stuff. I'd like to meet anyone here in London.. as more than one mind is better than one innit..?! It CAN be done..!!
I wish you luck Trinity in getting your bill down.. complain to them.. say their gear is banjaxxed or sommat!

Well the test results are in
1875 watt hair dryer on a single circuit with main breaker off
meter was dead stopped before applying the load
meter JUST change to 908 kw hours..
took the meter 18 minutes to goto 909 kwh

not bothering to send out people to read your meter-but guestimating from your past history-use care in raising a stink-you MIGHT find you owe them money-as they have not accurately recorded you power usage for some time

Just to make things easier, don't tell them the above as such is the wrong terminology for what's actually taking place.
To tell them that "they" are doubling the load implies they are dumping power and charging such to you. That's not what they're doing.
They indeed are in fact measuring the correct current usage and then multiplying what they measured by whatever "factor" they choose. It's kind of like their choosing the flavor of Vaseline they're going to apply when they have you over the table.
So, the "smart meter" simply means that they can alter this "factoring" anytime they like, and your average power user will never be able to catch them due their ability to change these things on the fly.
The only way a person is going to able to keep these bastards honest is to install their own personal total power monitoring system by which to keep them honest.
Obviously, virtually no one is going to be able to do that, so the power companies are going to be getting VERY "profitable" now.
Another way to do this is to put a current measuring hoop around each of the loads on the incoming 240 V supply and get a conversion PC board which then constantly archives all the data points, plots them out and gives the person something by which to prove the REAL power usage.
Here in Electrical Engineering geek land  , it's going to be a little bit tougher to fuck over the "average" guy, so it should be interesting to see how this all goes down here.

If you have the funds, why not get two or three electricians out to do the tests for you,make certain they are certified and such.
Then when you have the guys from the power company out to explain themselves, have the documents ready and a lawyer on standby.
This is about more than them cheating YOU it is about cheating millions of consumers potentially.
Have the Papers and news media out as well.
Go national if you can.
Get the word out, if you can rove wrong doing here.
And all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!"
