To say changing a contitution to extend a
presiential term from say...4 yrs. to 8 yrs. (as in the US)
is a way for someone to become a dictator is RETARDED!

The coup will ultimately FAIL.

There is NO coup. He was removed legally by the Constitutional prescription for such things.
He obviously does not believe in the rule of law.

As for Obama, we already know he does not believe in the Constitution. We already know that he wants to circumvent the Honduran people and their government. And we know why: He is afraid it will happen to him.

This is all planned.......Zelya was taken out of office Sunday moring at like 2 am or so. Russia was reinstated again to work with NATO on Saturday evening the day before Zelaya was taken out. Obama this week goes to Russia to meet with the President and also Prime minister Putin to see what happens from here on out........Honduras will not be attacked prior to the meeting...Afterwards I do not know as of yet

lol, tough luck for him. He was ousted, it really doesn't matter at this point what was legal or illegal, he's gone, adios. Arguing legality at this point in this matter just makes you look silly.

If I was the legally elected president I'd fight for the process too. The military had no right to a coup

He can fight, but legality is lulz at this point. There is no legal battle anymore once his country is taken over, the new people in power now make up the laws and can just deem his human carcass illegal.

I have read the pertinent parts of the Honduran Constitution, and it is a matter of interpretation.

Article 2 states:
La soberanía corresponde al pueblo del cual emanan todos los poderes del Estado que se ejercen por representación.

Sovereignty corresponds to the people from which all powers of the State emanate and are exercised by representation.

Which suggests that a referendum is not illegal.

Article 3 states:
Nadie debe obediencia a un gobierno usurpador ni a quienes asuman funciones o empleos públicos por la fuerza de las armas o usando medios o procedimientos que quebranten o desconozcan lo que esta Constitución y las leyes establecen. Los actos verificados por tales autoridades son nulos. el pueblo tiene derecho a recurrir a la insurrección en defensa del orden constitucional.

Nobody is required to obey an usurping government nor those that assume the functions or public service by force, arms or using methods or procedures that violate or ignore what this Constitution and laws establish. The verified acts of such authorities are null. The people have the right to resort to insurrection in defense of constitutional order.


Which suggests that the new government is illegitimate, since force was used to overthrow the elected president.

Article 4 seems to be what the golpistas are using to justify the coup:
ARTICULO 4.- La forma de gobierno es republicana, democrática y representativa. Se ejerce por tres poderes: Legislativo, Ejecutivo y Judicial, complementarios e independientes y sin relaciones de subordinación.

La alternabilidad en el ejercicio de la Presidencia de la República es obligatoria.

La infracción de esta norma constituye delito de traición a la Patria.

The alternation in the exercizing of the Presidency of the Republic is obligatory. The infraction of the rule consititutes treason.

But as you see, it is a matter of interpretation as to who has behaved against the constitution. A referendum is not the same as thwarting the alternation of the presidency. This is the article that would need to be amended to re elect a president, but no law was broken by letting the people decide if they wanted the constitutional reform or not, which appears to be provided for in Article 2.
