Re: What do you do to protect your electronics, car battery, etc. from a massive solar flare
Well I have a question for ya'll....well 2!

1) would a big fireproof safe be secure enough from an emp?
2) how would I find out what electrical components I would need to replace in my car if an emp did hit?
They have the power to create reality

I could explain it better but I would need charts, graphs and an easel.

By the way....which ones pink?

it would be a humongous tragedy.. as the most honorable and kind ppl would have to retort to looting.. 98% of the population depends on credit card and ppl dont keep cash anymore.. how will ppl buy anything.. it will have to be the law of the jungle.. Furthermore with all tv/radio down government will not be able to restore any type of civil peice.. it will be a truly scary and dark time.. It will be a dream for Pedophiles and rapists as they will be able to do as they wish, no 911 calls no home security system.. I hope I never see this time in my life time..

There wont be any useful protection. Nine months later there will be babies.

Solar flares will only affect radio, microwave and sattelite communications, no need to worry. (Thank the Ionosphere) An EMP on the other hand could destroy a few things.
 Quoting: MagiChristmas

I beg to differ....

a good size flare will knock out electric grid transfomers...

no electricity...

sero, zilch, nada....

no net, no t.v., no radios either,

just c.b`s....
Beyond one's own mind there is no dazzling light to come shining in from outside to wake one up. If one recognizes one's own intrinsic State as pure from the beginning and only temporarily obscured by impurities, and if one maintains the presence of this recognition without becoming distracted, then all the impurities dissolve. This is the essence of the Path-namkhai norbu.

Why is there a legend about the descent of Christ into hell? The Teacher addressed the lower strata of the astral world, saying: Why, by cherishing earthly thoughts, bind oneself eternally to Earth? And many revolted in spirit and rose higher.

Question here...

Think they'll affect 6, 9, 12v xmfers and
12v inverters? Walkie-talkies?

thanks

as for car get you an old chevy truck, put a carb on it a point distributor ect you should be able to eliminate all computer fryable shit in the truck or car
 Quoting: Holy Bat Shitman!

Ignition coils and points condenser are still likely to be fried, so get a few spares, wrapped in lead!

Read "Lights Out" by Frugal Squirrel (I think) It's the exact scenario we are now discussing. Amazing read.

OK it~s Lights Out by HalfFast posted on the frugal squirrel website. Here's a new link

Google 'faraday cage'.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 719035

I did run across that but it sounds more than what I could do. I think I might try wrapping some radios and flashlights and baggies of batteries and bury them. But then again - WHEN??? Its so hard to find time for this end of the world stuff lol

ok

this is supposed to hit when?
 Quoting: OneAngryMom

Hi OAM,

Who knows, really. I hope not tomorrow! I just would like us all to be better prepared. Sorry if I worried you. But I am glad that you are paying attention.

There seems to be a weakening of the earth's magnetosphere. And crop circles that MIGHT be pointing to a date (July 7 or 11)that has to do with a solar flare. Will that flare create a damaging EMP? Don't know. I would like to think that the crop circles will someday reveal a clear event that will make it certain that extraterrestrial life is indeed communicating with us. I hope that event is not catastrophic.

In the meantime, it is good to be aware of the real possibility of events such as this - such as a solar flare hitting our earth when its defenses are down. And to know that our electrical equipment would be very vulnerable to something like that.

If the safe is made of lead, probably.

I would look into the Faraday Cage for your whole care

not terribly practical unless you are a fabricator or have money.

I still think an underground parking garage - multiple levels down would work. Unfortunately there aren't any where I am that I know of. So I guess I better make sure my bike is working

If this is anything like what happened in ? 03 or 04, lots of fried puters, barring complete grid outage, wouldn't simply unplugging prevent damage of electronics ?

As long as its not the type of safe with the electronic number pad on it instead of a dial.

You are talking about pulses of high energy radiation, at different frequencies (electro-magnetic). Transformer windings are completely separated from each other, electricity is induced through high magnetic fields.

All these coils, capacitor and circuit boards act as an antenna waiting to pick up a huge induced voltage.

emp won't hurt battires-put small electronics inside metal tool box or 5 gal.can-it can't touch the metal, wrap it in towel or line can or tool box with foam bord.your auto-truck will need new computor put spare in box.also truck and autos may survive if a pice of chain is put from frame long enough to drag on ground. mag.travles to ground if chain is on soil or other good ground.----------------------deisel tractors will run you only need to open fuel valve and jump start to starter.i have a 1985 chevy pu truck with a deisel-i wet a rag with gasoline-lay it over intake, put elec. to fuel valve, jump to starter and off we go.gasoline on rag is how you start a deisel if your glow plugs malfunction.----------------a small metal shed with all sides-doors- roof made of metal and all touchimg or a wire connecting all together then a wire to a grown rod.cover any windows w/tin.put stuff on wood--enp wont pass throu metal but will go to ground. ---------------------------PS.if you are trailer trash like me just ground outter sell of trailer to a good ground rod keep stuff away from windows and unplug.

Think!! What protects our astronauts from solar radiation?
What in the space shuttle of many kilo grams protects it from solar radiation? Look at the space mens eye shields.
Gold, gold, gold!!! Why is all the rich people buying up gold? All these companies, we will buy your gold broken chains, etc. A thin film of melted gold, painted over a rooms
roof from inside the attic over cement board. will keep your batteries, generator, water supply, food and even you,
when sleep. think about why is gold pursued, by so many, and they so much but the price keeps going up. Even aliens wanted gold.
