Yeah, I've been behind a food stamper with steak and I was paying cash hamburger.

So learn how to budget better and buy a fuckin steak. Not to mention that you might have just not been paying attention. A lot of times I see steak cheaper per pound than ground beef. And lastly, how the fuck do you know that that person doesn't decide to treat themselves to steak once a month after eating ramen and boxes of mac and cheese the rest of the time?

So easy to judge when you haven't walked the mile.

You cannot buy anything that is taxable with foodstamps. A bakery prepared cake is taxable in many states.

Furthermore, you are assuming that the person who was buying the cake could have baked one themeselves from a box mix. I know several people who don't have an oven, and several other people that could screw up boiled water.
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Also personal income tax only accounts for about 44% of the Federal governments revenue.

So really less than one percent goes towards welfare and unemployment.

At one time, people cared for people. Those truly in need were helped by others. Not so sure that would work today.

In our community, when someone dies, you take food. When someone is sick, you take food. When someone loses a job, you take food. Might even put a few dollars in the bag with the food.

There is no line to the door of the lazy, and those unwilling to work. For those truly in need, it's a blessing to be able to help.

It's sad that those who truly need help are often the ones unable to get it. Sadder still that the system has made us unwilling to help.

Can't keep up with DAs, I mean ACs.

Point is - Part of my pay goes to support other people. I don't like it and it's morally wrong.

Unfortunatly, I'm on the radar and I can't opt out of the system because I have people depending on me.

Sorry Jackin' In A Box - forgot to list you with the DAs.

And next year, things will go from bad to worse. All of Bush's tax cuts will expire and there is no way Obama will extend them. This will add an additional 1 trillion dollars to our tax burden.

Of the 11.79 percent in the pie chart, 9.79 percent falls under "other mandatory spending" whatever that is.

It clearly states that less than 2 percent of the whole budget is for unemployment and welfare with less than 1% coming from personal income taxes.

I'm not going to read your whole thread so excuse me if someone has already pointed the following out to you.

I have been a payroll accountant for years. You need to drop unemployment out of your title. Before that person you are bitching about became unemployed he and his employer paid money into the fund. He and his employer made equal contributions and he is paying for his own fund. You aren't paying for it.

Unemployment is nothing like welfare. You need to do some research before you post such a thread.

Re: Do most people on WELFARE, UNEMPLOYMENT, etc..realize that...
I don't know about other states but in Oregon there are ways around the system of getting things you technically can't purchase on food stamps. The birthday cake thing is a prime example. Here you can't special order a cake but you can take a ready made cake from the bakery's choices in the grocery store and free of charge they will write something on it. You can't purchase a fountain drink with a straw in it with food stamps but take that same drink and DON'T put the straw in and you can get the drink. You may not be able to buy the deli fried chicken but if you get into the store as they are pulling their chicken and packaging it for the cold section you can still get "hot" chicken on food stamps.

One thing that astonished me recently was when we went shopping hubby found an M&M character fan with candy in it. That was the ONLY thing I expected to pay with cash and food stamps covered it. The bag of candy inside was a fun size pack, hardly worth the $2.99 in stamps it was worth. I was actually bitching about it as I was bagging it up.

I make the food stamps we receive go the distance I can make them. I enjoy the convenience of "ready made" mixes but I refuse to pay for a box and a name. I have found recipes and reworked them to work for my family for things like rice a roni, hamburger and chicken helper seasoning mixes, biscuit and pancake mix and a basic cake mix that by adding different ingredients (like chocolate for a chocolate cake) I can make ANY sort of cake I choose.

I find it very disappointing that I can't go to a local farmer's stand and purchase fresh produce from him on food stamps while I can go and buy fresh from a grocery store that has things shipped in from South and Central America... THAT I think is the most screwed up thing of all.

But that's what the bitch bought, with the card, and that's what the state office confirmed was "a birthday cake" as compared to "a cake mix" like sensible poor people bake into a birthday cake.
Any bakery item can be purchased in a grocery store with foodstamps, as well as chips and candy.
Nutritious and delicious.
