The Urantia Book: Honest questions answered.

The Urantia Book is very difficult to understand. Can you sum it up in a simple paragraph OP? What is it's purpose? Thx.

It claims to be a new revelation of religious truth to our planet from God's government. The last such was 2000 years ago. It corrects our human records. It covers a lot of ground from The Universal Father to The Life and Teachings of Jesus. The gist of it, and of Jesus' message, is that we are all children of God, members of God's family, and if we recognize that, we can have eternal life. Jesus' true gospel (the info we need to have eternal life) is: "the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man." Jesus says the same in the New Testament: "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus was asked. And Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? how do you read it?" And he answered saying, "Thou shall love God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself." And Jesus said to him, "Thou has answered right: this do, and thou shall live." (Luke 10:25-28)

I'd like to know why they are so cagey about its authorship on the urantia website.


I had difficulty findy any byline when I was researching it.

1. Why is it scientifically inaccurate?

2. Why is it racist?

3. Why is universal life an abhorrent giant bueracracy?

What Urantia calls an "Universe" is very confused; the numbers as such that "Nebadon" is much, much smaller than our Galaxy alone.
What about that?

Now as for the UB....just another book..like any other book...all the works of man..whether inspired or non-inspired!

Just my personal opinion & not looking to debate such...for I walk a different path than that required by church or man!

an anthology of 196 'papers' indited [i.e., dictated] between 1928 and 1935 by superhuman personalities.... The humans into whose hands the papers were delivered are now deceased. The means by which the papers were materialized was unique and is unknown to any living person.

Never liked the book, read "A Course in Miracles" now that is a great book.

I purchased the book 25 years ago and read it twice.

If your mind is open, take a peek...the local universe was an interesting section

System rebellions are a great read. But I think the UB is off on those 'annihilation decrees' and that is why all of Jesus' references to eternal punishment have been deleted, or not mentioned at all.

1. THE BIBLE: AUTHORITY AND SIGNIFICANCE

I. THE BIBLE ESSENTIAL TO CHRISTIANITY

1. From the beginning of Christianity, the Old Testament was accepted as Scripture—the word of God.

2. To understand the relation of the Bible to Christianity means that we must define Christianity, and such a study involves the theologian, historian, archaeologist, and anthropologist.

3. According to the Urantia Book, Christianity is the religion about Jesus as differentiated from the religion of Jesus.

4. The Bible never claims to be an infallible authority. Says Paul in II Tim 3:16: “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

5. Whatever inspiration is, there must be degrees of it. Second Isaiah was more inspired than the First Isaiah.

6. In another place ( Rom 6:19) Paul reminds his readers that: “I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations.”

7. Textual contradictions and other differences make it impossible for us to believe in verbal inspiration.

8. Jesus frequently quoted Scripture, but never alluded to it as being inspired. He never called Scripture the word of God.

9. Jesus’ view of the Scriptures is expressed in his memorable talk with Nathaniel. See Urantia Book, (1767.3) 159:4.1

10. The interpretation of Scripture:

a. Catholic View: The church, and only the church, can truly interpret the Bible. And when the church does thus function, the interpretation is infallible.

b. Protestant View: Protestants claim that any individual, by aid of the Holy Spirit, can interpret the Bible.

11. The word “Bible” means “little book,” but the word itself is not found in the Bible.

II. HARMONY OF FAITH AND SCRIPTURE

1. Incarnation is the theologic heart of Christianity—and the Bible sustains this doctrine.

2. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:14. This is the theme song of all New Testament teaching.

3. Naturally, the next step is the proclamation—”There is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12.

4. While the Urantia Book validates the incarnation, it declares the gospel of the kingdom to be “the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.”

5. At Antioch they stressed the humanity of Jesus; at Alexandria, the divinity of the Master.

6. Docetism taught that Jesus’ humanity was but “seeming”—a sort of phantasm.

7. The Bible could be regarded as an incarnation—a union of the human and the divine.

8. The divine represents the so-called inspiration; the human accounts for the remarkable diversification—the errors, the contradictions, inconsistencies, etc.

9. To take away the human element in Scripture would be the equivalent of depriving Jesus of his human nature.

10. Christ’s ministry to man did not come to an end at his death on the cross and God’s revelation of truth to mankind did not end with the Old and New Testaments.

The Urantia book

I just started reading this book. I first read several pages from the chapter on the Kingdom of Heaven. I was very impressed so I have now started reading the whole book from the beginning. I have yet to of read anything that severely contradicts my beliefs.

However, I've read a few post here and there on GLP and I'm starting to get confused.

The book describes the Father, the Eternal Son, and the son creators. Okay. And that Michael is the creator of our world. Okay.. I guess I can accept that. I mean, I won't refute it.

But... Now I read on here (GLP) that Christ Michael is who? ..I don't understand. Christ Michael is Jesus?? Christ Michael is the Eternal Son?? Jesus is not the Eternal Son??

Please will you clarify this for me?

Where in the book does it talk about this? Or doesn't it?

So often people get their facts wrong. I would like to know exactly what the book says about this.
