Re: WHY DOES NEWS HAVE TO BREAK???
News told by someone you can believe in would be considered truth. They break the truth. They put out cover stories. Programming available to anyone to take it. Now on one condition, you must buy a digital box. The government will even help you out with payment on this one in the name of entertainment. Conditioning to your door. Breaking truth and servings from business-people for the sake of molding opinions of non-busy people or useless eaters, as they are called.

They break the pre-rehearsed version of "the news" "emerging" news would be more politically correct

In the 1960s you'd be watching the tv and suddenly the screen went to a flat sign saying "Breaking News" or the CBS eye and the sign "BULLETIN" and the dulcet tones on an announcer proclaiming, "We interrupt this program (or "regular programming")to bring you this news....
Everyone would hold their breath coming so soon after three high profile assassinations, wars, riots, space accidents and other upheavals to await the latest bulletin.
It tapered off in the 1970s but there was still Nixon's resignation, the shooting of Governor Geo. Wallace, attempted assassination of President Ford, Iranian hostage taking, etc.
I think the word "break" might come from "morning has BROKEN" an old-fashioned term, but it still gets people's attention.

Ah, the good ole days of doom.

Retro doom is the best.

The 30's, 40's, 60's, and 70's.

Vintage doom.
