Wednesday, November 13, 2002: The Minnesota National Guard stepped in to aid in the search, providing 118 troops and equipment and searching a 16-square mile area surrounding campus, including swamps and woods. After a search dog picked up Joshua's scent near Stumpf Lake, a snake-like body of water located on the route Joshua would have taken back to his apartment, the decision to lower the water level in order to search the lake was approved. Searches and dragging of the lake uncovered no clues. Requests to totally drain Stumpf Lake awaited DNR approval.

The Sheriffs Dept. said divers went into East Gemini because a news release claimed the credibility of Hoover was in question. The news release also stated that there had been no indication of any member of St. Johns academic or monastic community being involved in the disappearance of Joshua.

January 18, 2003: Hoover was brought out again and followed Joshua's scent to Sagatagan Lake and out onto the lake. Hoover had traced the scent to the center of the lake when St Johns Life Safety staff member asked the group to leave for interfering with the investigation conducted by the Stearns County Sheriffs Dept. and because pets were not allowed on campus. A later clarification by Michael Hemmesch, Director of Communications at St. Johns, stated that both reasons were true but the crew was actually asked to leave because the search was not coordinated through the Stearns County Sheriffs Dept. and their search would impede on the investigation.

INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF WADE'S DEATH COMPLETED

Findings of the Independent review on Wade's death were made public Monday, July 2.

An independent consultant's analysis of the Jan. 13 electrocution death of Purdue student Wade Steffey has improved understanding of the accident but produces no major surprises, university officials said Monday (July 2).

The Rimkus Consulting Group Inc., which specializes in accident reconstruction and was hired in March by attorneys representing the university, has delivered its final report to Purdue. The report concluded that:

* The electrical vault in which Steffey died and the equipment in the room were in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

* Steffey entered the vault - located inside Owen Hall, a student residence hall - by climbing over or through a railing and going through an exterior door located about four feet below ground level. The configuration of the exterior entrance to the electrical vault was obviously not intended for access to the building by residents or the public. The door, which was intended only for maintenance purposes, either was unlocked or not securely latched. The Indiana Electrical Code requires that the door be locked.

* At the time of his death, Steffey had a blood alcohol content that was above the legal limit for intoxication, but below the level considered lethal, according to a separate toxicology report performed for the Tippecanoe County Coroner's office.

* Prior to his death, Steffey had climbed over or crawled under a cable inside the vault and positioned himself in a narrow space between a transformer and the wall of the vault where his body was found on March 19. Steffey was electrocuted when he inserted a finger on his left hand into a 0.88-inch hole into a recessed exposed conductor within a bushing attached to the transformer. Because of the location, his body was not seen when the room was visually inspected during a search of the entire campus.

Several law enforcement agencies have conducted an extensive investigation into the incident.

Morgan R. Olsen, Purdue's executive vice president and treasurer, said: "We now have a more complete picture of what led up to this unfortunate event. We may never know, however, exactly what happened or what motivated Wade Steffey to enter the electrical vault.

"Unless new information comes to our attention, this study completes the investigation into the circumstances of Wade's death. However, we have gained some insight that may help in the future. We've tested all vault locks to be sure they are latched and will continue to do so.

"Personally, and on behalf of the university community, I offer sincere condolences to the Steffey family and to Wade's many friends for the loss they have suffered.

"I thank the many people who volunteered to search for Wade, many of them Purdue employees and students, as well as citizens of the Greater Lafayette area and the Bloomington community where the Steffeys live. Some of these people also raised money for a reward fund.

"I also thank the many investigators and police officers, here at Purdue and elsewhere, who worked long hours to find this young man, as well as journalists who kept the search for Wade in front of the public, encouraging everyone to keep looking.

"We all have felt this loss very deeply."

According to the Rimkus report:

Steffey entered the Owen Hall electrical vault through an exterior door located at the bottom of a pit on the building's north side. Although it was obvious that the door was not intended for public access, the surrounding concrete enclosure and metal railing did not prevent Steffey from gaining access.

Rimkus' investigation verified that Steffey could not have forced the door open if the latch had been properly engaged. Maintenance records showed that the door was locked on Nov. 10, 2006. However, proper latching of the door was not verified at that time. Rimkus' tests of the Owen Hall door and of doors with similar mechanisms on two other buildings showed that it was possible for a door to be locked without the latch being fully engaged. The Rimkus report states: "If the door was locked, but the bolt was not fully engaged in the strike, force could have been used to defeat the hardware set."

The Owen vault exterior door was found to be unlocked after Steffey's body was found on March 19, but if Steffey had forced it open in January he could have unlocked it by normal twisting of the interior knob, Rimkus stated.

Steffey attended a party in an Owen Hall room in the men's living area at about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 12, where witnesses reported he consumed alcohol. Later that night, he walked to the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house to attend a party. He left the fraternity at about midnight Jan. 13. During an 11-minute period, beginning at 12:20 a.m., he made six calls on his cell phone, including one to a fax machine and two to people in other cities who believed they were called by mistake. Two witnesses reported seeing someone they believed to be Steffey near Owen Hall at about 12:30 a.m. One reported he attempted to gain entry to the women's side of the hall. Both witnesses said Steffey appeared to be intoxicated.

Steffey was reported missing on Jan. 16, and an extensive search and investigation failed to locate him. His body was found in the electrical vault March 19 by a university employee who was investigating a report of an unusual odor.

Wade Steffey's Death Deserves Answers


The untimely death of 19-year-old Purdue student Wade Steffey has raised some very troubling questions surrounding his death to which his family and the public are owed some answers. If we are to believe the account of Purdue officials and police, Steffey died the same day he disappeared on January 13 after he unwittingly entered an unlocked door leading to a high voltage utility room of a student dormitory where he died from an electrical shock while feeling his way through the darkened room. Investigators speculate he entered the door late at night in hopes of finding a way into Owen Hall, a dormitory where he had left his coat.

Despite a massive search for Steffey beginning a couple of days after his disappearance, nobody discovered Steffey's body in the utility room, even though officials said the room was searched and K-9 units had been used in the area to search for Steffey. The body was not discovered until March 19 after students returned from spring break after a physical facilities employee was notified of a popping noise eminating from the area of the utility room. This employee was drawn into the room, according to the Purdue's Exponent student newspaper, by a "strange odor" emanating from the room. He discovered Steffey's body just 50 yards from where he had last been seen on January 13. As the Exponent reported on March 21 :


The room in which Steffey was found had been searched once from the inside entrance shortly after he disappeared. Because of poor lighting and the position of the body, however, searchers could not see him from that doorway. Eight K-9 units also failed to uncover the location of the body, despite several searches in the building's vicinity.

Norberg said the odor of the body may have been masked by the odor emitted from the transformers, which is sealed from the inside of Owen by a thick door. The room also maintained a slightly higher temperature than outside, which may have postponed the decomposing process.


If Steffey died from electrocution on January 13, why were no "popping noises" heard for more than two months--the sound of his body grounding the electrical current? Why was the odor not detected during this period of time? How could the outdoor entrance to the high voltage utility room remained unlocked and undetected for more than two months? Why was the outside door to the utility room not marked with the words "DANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE"? Why wasn't there a light switch by the outside door, which would allow someone to turn the lights on without stumbling through the dark searching for the only other light switch near the locked inside door? A cell phone was found with Steffey's body. Were signals not emitted very near this area around the time of his disappearance?

What is even more troubling is a new revelation today that a Purdue maintenance worker found a shoe belonging to Steffey on January 23 just 10 days after he disappeared in the door well leading into the room where his body was found. The AP reports:


A maintenance worker found a shoe belonging to a missing Purdue student near a utility room where his body eventually was found, a spokeswoman for the university said.

But searchers didn't immediately link the plaid-lined slipper to Wade Steffey when it was found on Jan. 23, 10 days after the 19-year-old Bloomington man vanished.

"Obviously, it's something that we wish -- in hindsight -- had made us look more closely," Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said Tuesday . . .

Numerous items of clothing were found and stored as potential evidence, Norberg said. The shoe was covered in leaves and debris and looked as if it had been outdoors more than 10 days, she said.


Steffey's parents are not satisfied with what they've learned so far. They've retained an Indianapolis law firm, Montross, Miller, Muller, Mendelson and Kennedy, to represent them in a potential action against the university. Speculation about Steffey's death has been further fueled by Internet rumors about his sexual orientation and whether that could have played any role in his death.

It is clear that Purdue officials and local police badly mishandled the search for Steffey. I only hope the passage of time and the resulting deterioration of the condition of his body over that more than two month period does not remove the possibility of getting the answers his family and the public deserve.

Capt. Rob Abraham of the La Crosse Police Department said the incidents are nothing like what allegedly occurred in the Lanphear case.

"What we had were accidental drownings," he said, "and this is a kidnapping; this was an abduction."

A Daily Tribune online search of La Crosse County land records, dating back to 1987, yielded no results for Lanphear's name. Searches of similar online records in nearby Trempealeau, Jackson and Monroe counties also came up empty.

Dennis William Hauck, in The Emerald Tablet: (p. 82), writes: “By immersing oneself in water in an initiation rite or baptism, one is cleansing and dissolving old ideas and habits to regenerate new patterns. Water symbolizes the dissolving power of the liquid state as well as the property of cleansing… Because water is the primal, undifferentiated, unshaped liquid, it really stands for all the possibilities of creation…Water is symbolic of the freedom of matter to change…"

The dying of the paper in indigo, then, was my prima materia. Dying with indigo is an alchemical process for me, one that brings me “to attention.” Suddenly, after all preparations (the vat made ready, the paper cut, felts laid out) are made, all that exists is me, the vat (holding water and indigo), and the paper. I slowly lower the paper down into the vat, which looks like a black watery mass of nothingness, a primordial black hole. The paper rests a moment or two submerged in the vat. Then I carefully pull it out, tilting it and sometimes swirling it a bit in the vat, letting the indigo make its marks. As the paper is pulled out of the vat, it is a greenish color, which changes to blue as oxygen hits it. The paper is laid on a felt to dry. As soon as it is laid flat, the excess water and dye on the surface of the paper begin a movement, a dance of their own, making more patterns that will really only be apparent when the paper is completely dry. Tree-like formations, stars, veins, and lines resembling fissures take shape before my eyes. I am watching creation in motion. The paper is transforming itself. It has a mind of its own. And each piece of paper in this edition speaks a different pattern, a different message. In every moment of this process, I am acutely aware - of everything.

As with the dying process, the rest of the creation of the broadsides came together alchemically. A layer of iron oxide (hand made) was painted on the dried indigo dyed papers. Then each broadside was letterpress printed on a Vandercook printing press. (Letterpress printing employs the use of type or designs cast or engraved in relief (raised), on a variety of surfaces which can include metal, rubber, and wood.) The image that was letterpressed was created first on a computer, then made into a magnesium plate. Each image consists of a part of the human anatomy, an alchemical maxim, the text of the Emerald Tablet contained within the shape of an “O” and alchemical symbols which are used to enhance the interpretation of the maxim. Finally, gold pigment is added by hand to highlight a particular area of each broadside.

I want to note that the “O” is an integral part of the broadsides. According to Hunbatz Men, in his book, Secrets of Mayan Science/Religion, the “O” is a symbol of awakened consciousness and was used extensively in Mayan artworks. The “O” also represents the auric egg that humans reside in. Upon reflection, many other meanings of the “O” will become apparent.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A Wood County judge today entered not-guilty pleas for a paper mill worker accused of abducting and sexually assaulting two young men he held captive at his home.

Judge Edward Zappan entered the pleas after Edward Lanphear stood mute.

Lanphear, 46, of the town of Saratoga, is charged with 13 felonies — two counts of kidnapping, five counts of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of substantial battery and impersonating a peace officer.

The single father who authorities say worked at a Wisconsin Rapids paper mill for more than 20 years before his arrest in early July remains in jail on $1 million bond.

According to court documents, Lanphear offered a 23-year-old Grand Rapids man a ride home after the Fourth of July fireworks in Wisconsin Rapids. Pretending to a be a Grand Rapids officer, Lanphear put handcuffs on the man and then hit him on the back of the head when one of the handcuffs came loose.

Lanphear took the 23-year-old to Lanphear's Saratoga residence, where he kept the man chained, sexually assaulted him and pointed a gun at him, according to court records.

On the morning of July 8, Lanphear abducted the 21-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man, took the man to his home in Saratoga and physically and sexually assaulted him, according to court documents. The man was able to escape and call for help for himself and the 23-year-old man, who was being held in Lanphear's basement.

A 23-year-old Grand Rapids man was the first to take the stand during Lanphear's preliminary hearing Thursday in a courtroom half filled with media and family members. Zappen granted a request to have the general public -- about five people -- removed.

Walking home from downtown Wisconsin Rapids the night of July 4 after a friend got sick, the 23-year-old was resting on a curb when Lanphear stopped and asked him if he wanted a ride, the Grand Rapids man testified.

Later, Lanphear pulled over his pickup truck, told his passenger he was a Grand Rapids police officer, then placed handcuffs on the Grand Rapids man, the 23-year-old said. He testified that he remembers one of his hands coming free before Lanphear struck him on the back of the head.

When the 23-year-old awoke, he was facedown on a ladder that was flat on the floor. His wrists, ankles and midsection were chained to the ladder. The 23-year-old said Lanphear then sexually assaulted him.

"I didn't resist because I didn't want to be harmed," the 23-year-old said. "I was struck once already, and I didn't want to have that happen again."

The Grand Rapids man said he was scared and confused during the ordeal.

At one point, Lanphear said he had to go to work, the 23-year-old said. The 23-year-old, who was blindfolded during most of his captivity, felt an object on his face that Lanphear said was a shotgun shell and then what Lanphear said was a shotgun. He heard the shell placed into the weapon, and then a noise that sounded like a .22-caliber gun going off. The 23-year-old said Lanphear did it to prove he was serious.

Lanphear told the 23-year-old if he tried to escape, he wouldn't like the results because a string was tied from the gun to a chain placed around his neck, the alleged victim testified.

The 23-year-old, who lost track of time while he was captive, said he spent much of his captivity chained to rectangular metal pipes on the floor in the basement near a mattress.

Lanphear did take the 23-year-old upstairs for breakfast and fed him scrambled eggs. The first bite was bitter, the Grand Rapids man testified, but subsequent bites tasted better.

Four days after the 23-year-old disappeared, Lanphear released him from his chains. The Grand Rapids man said he sensed a change in Lanphear and asked what was happening. Lanphear responded that police had arrived.

When a 22-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man testified, he said he was asleep in his pickup behind Johnny's Bar in Wisconsin Rapids when a dark cloth, possibly a pillowcase, was placed over his head. Lanphear also told the 22-year-old, who was 21 at the time of the incident, that Lanphear was a police officer.

The 22-year-old was taken to a house and chained to a ladder.



"I realized that it wasn't an officer; I was actually at somebody's house, so I started to fight against him," the 22-year-old said.

When the Wisconsin Rapids man resisted, Lanphear struck him twice on the left side of his face, causing multiple fractures.

Lanphear took the 22-year-old into the living room, had him drink what Lanphear said was vodka and orange juice, then placed him on the floor and sexually assaulted him, the 22-year-old said.

The 22-year-old was taken to the garage and lain on a blanket, he said. When he awoke, the 22-year-old peaked under his blindfold and saw Lanphear on a ladder. He then saw a chain drop from the ceiling and asked Lanphear whether he planned to hang the 22-year-old.

Lanphear chained the 22-year-old in a standing position to the chain attached to the ceiling. The 22-year-old said he asked Lanphear not to chain his feet and Lanphear complied. The Wisconsin Rapids man then convinced Lanphear to go to a store to get the 22-year-old cigarettes. When Lanphear left in his vehicle, the 22-year-old was able to move his blindfold to see, pull the ladder over with his foot, and climb up and remove the chain from the ceiling. He then ran for help.

Earlier on this thread the thought arose that perhaps David Hopp, or Ed Lanphear may have something to do with Jacob Wetterlings case. This thread while may be unrelated, addresses the possibility of another person:

Why am I putting it here? It is also speculated Lanphear may have had an accomplice, and his plea was just pushed back, which coincided with Seitz admission to his shrink (alleged). They are 37 mi apart from Seitz Sr. residence. I think this property should be checked.

A Plea for Sanity.
Or How to make intelligent Sense of Kryptic Evidence.


It has come to my attention that those following the smiley face gang cases are like myself fascinated by the various lists of similarities and seeming kryptic elements of the graffiti and words associated with the sfk cases.

This mystery element of sfk cases and the various attempts to connect them, is good for publicising the cases and make good news and story. However the rational of some of the theorising of what connections are connected, and the means of making these connections is lacking any sense of reality of purposeful meaning or outcome.

In short the theorising mechanics of all the present invesigators lack any credible chain of evidence basis, and are dead ends that lead to nothing, and connect back to nothing EXCEPT WORDS.

This aimless use of word connections derived from first letters of names and places etc, leads nowhere connects to nothing EXCEPT OTHER WORDS, Words that cast no real light on EITHER THE MOTIVE ,PURPOSE OR INDEED THE IDENITITY OF THE PERPETRATORS OF THESE MURDERS.



This is not the case with the ALCHEMY EVIDENCE, it is neither the case nor the evidence gathering technique employed.

The means by which the Alchemy evidence was gathered and the reason it is strongly relevent and evidence based is ;

1 Firstly it was attained from material evidence gathered from victim location placemennt.

2 Secondly ,It became known through persons associated with the location of victims.

2 Thirdly, it reveals a historic system of known if all be it, obscure proto science that is exactly depicting the circumstances of the deaths .

4, Fourthly, it explains to the letter the serious ritual motive and purpose of the elements of the sfk cases that were said by the official investigation team to be of a ritualistic nature.

5, Fifthly, it leads directly back to material evidence and the location of the most probable perpetrators who have amongst their number; already proven perpetrators of crimes against the victim profile.
