Awesome insects!
We always treat praying mantis with respect.
We may pick them up and hold them, but they are always released, unharmed.
This one was snacking on a honey bee. Notice the little gnats, like jackals, edging in for a morsel.

I was convinced it communicated with me, and that it understood me. When my grandmother would get a wild hair and grab the bug spray to get rid of some kind of bugs that ate her flowers there, I'd make her give me time to put the mantis in a safe place until it was okay again.
