We may pick them up and hold them, but they are always released, unharmed. This one was snacking on a honey bee. Notice the little gnats, like jackals, edging in for a morsel. :praying ma: Nice, czygyny. There was one that lived in the ivy gwoing around the base of a huge oak tree in our front yard as a kid. I was convinced it communicated with me, and that it understood me. When my grandmother would get a wild hair and grab the bug spray to get rid of some kind of bugs that ate her flowers there, I'd make her give me time to put the mantis in a safe place until it was okay again. **** PEACE **** UFO's @ [link to www.youtube.com] UFO photos & phenomena @ [link to www.picasaweb.google.com] MY GLP VIDEO CHANNEL * [link to video.godlikeproductions.com] [link to www.futurequake.bravehost.com] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 728504 New Zealand 07/18/2009 05:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we've flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din we've created. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 702197After observing this creature for any length of time you can see why the symbolism of the praying mantis deals with stillness and patience. The mantis takes her time, and lives her life at her own silent pace. These traits have lead the mantis to be a symbol of meditation and contemplation. In fact, in China, the mantis has long been honored for her mindful movements. The mantis never makes a move unless she is 100% positive it is the right thing for her to do. This is a message to us to contemplate and be sure our minds and souls all agree together about the choices we are making in our lives. Overwhelmingly in most cultures the mantis is a symbol of stillness. As such, she is an ambassador from the animal kingdom giving testimony to the benefits of meditation, and calming our minds. An appearance from the mantis is a message to be still, go within, meditate, get quite and reach a place of calm. It may also a sign for you to be more mindful of the choices you are making and confirm that these choices are congruent Nice, last couple of summers, we have had like twenty mantis in our house, some time's in pairs once there were three or four. Had a little frog run through once. Thats on top of the dozens of cats that vistited our home in last decade. Got a local magpie around two, a couple of dogs, pigen, what else, oh mice, spiders, A bird that talks at night, dont know who he is. Ive always wondered what the lotus meant/mantis (is there a differance or are they the same?). And I know one thing for sure, ive sure learnt about patiance and the importance of stillness. Great post friend. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 728379Had the appearance of the praying mantis been a sign of good luck, or an indifferent event, your response would have been "oh, cool." And then you would have forgotten about it. But both you and WinningJob are aware on the subconscious level that it is a portent of ill events, so it registered with you as something of importance. So you thought you had better ask others what it means. As for what might be coming your way, I have no way of knowing, but whatever it is will strike you initially as being one of those "this is like an answer to my prayers" occurrences -- even though you had not been consciously praying (or wishing) for it. Maybe it will be a job offer, or maybe someone who you find very attractive will overtly proposition you. Whatever it is will seem to have come "out of nowhere" -- just like the mantis did. And, whatever it is, when it comes you will have a sense of foreboding, in addition to being very tempted. Resist the temptation. Politely decline. |
Lens Flare User ID: 715354 United Kingdom 07/18/2009 06:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just saw a praying mantis when I opened the door to the back yard..scared me for some reason. He/She jumped to the next door which I pushed open and it ran to the ground and just stopped. I closed the door and went back inside. Later, I went back out to clean the pool and will swim now. Quoting: WinningjobMy question is has anyone else seen one recently and I have heard numerous explanations on what they mean..anyone on GLP know? I have read somewhere that it means to re-direct my energies and throughout history they have directed people that were lost in France and pilgrims to Mecca and a few other places. It's just an insect, for cryin' out loud. You think too deeply. The chariots of God are tens of thousands, and thousands of thousands. |

A bug that prays would be a comfort to us. But it is really a preying bug. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 728379Praying Mantis' are much more dangerous than they look! I saw a praying mantis on an Imax video that was attacking a RATTLESNAKE! It didn't win of course. The snake was 20 or 30 times it's size. But the mantis attacks animals many times it's size and I wouldn't mess with them, thinking they're "spiritual" or harmless! I knew you wouldn't believe this so here's a link. (but not the one I saw...you have to pay for Imax) [link to www.metacafe.com] |

tink User ID: 1161426 United States 11/12/2010 12:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have not been on this forum before today, when I had a very personal contact with a mantis...it remained on my body for 9 hours while at work. It would not leave me at all. it sat on my shoulder for 4 hours, and before that it sat on my hand. I tried to put it in a garden and he/she decided the right place to be was with me.I put her up close to my face so I could see the eyes...He looked me in the eye and curled up his leg and then stretched it out to touch my nose gently, then pulled back slowly.I brought him/her home and found a grassy place. A couple of hours later, I went to the spot and Manteese (the name I gave it, tired of the need to call it him or her) was still there and sensed me and crawled immediately onto my hand. This wonder has symbolized peace, sanctuary, meditation, and calm for many thousands of years. There is one person on here who is ready for combat about this subject...she is very defensive. Let go of the personal feeling of attack from anyone. Listen to what comes forth...it may be you that you have to heal, not everyone else. You are already whole, you just see the fragments. So where is Manteese? I don't know...do I need to? xxxooo Tink[youtube] |

II saw one in the middle of my entrance door. My husband said in chinese, it means good luck to see one. Few weeks later, he got hit by a car, but escaped with a broken bone that needed one surgery only. I expected money to come but i got a shocking surprise instead. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 728261Actually, my first thought was that it is 111 degrees outside and maybe it wanted inside. Again though, having not seen one for years, I wanted to know if anyone else had seen one recently. There are some bugs sure, but mostly a couple of hummingbirds which are really cool to watch and of course some bees..ton of ants which is why I clean the pool everyday. Yes , my son and I had one visit us this morning. It actually crawled onto his lap. I went to get phone to take picture and he had it off by then but here it is.
