Why is the space shuttles underbelly a different colour to the live feed i watched on sky tv?
just opened the mail on sunday here in the uk, centre spread has got a picture of the apollo 11 and the endeavour shuttle on their respective launchpads.the underbelly of the shuttle is black in the paper but on the live feed the underbelly was white as the shuttle seperated from the main fuel tank which must have had at least one camera mounted on it from the pics we saw on sky.anyone care to elaborate?

NTSC (never twice same colour).. is what the Americans use.. so when converted to our PAL (perfection at last) standard.. one sees a different colour. I was converting an NTSC colour signal years ago.. to find blue's becoming reds.. & vice versa. The American video colour system is complete shit..!

Very well said!

Yeah, NTSC is crap, but, it was what we were stuck with.

It was a lousy way to make the conversion from B&W to color, without changing the entire broadcasting system back then.

It should be interesting once you have to start converting all the different formats of HD to PAL...or SECAM, for that matter. (BTW, does SECAM still exist? Haven't seen it in years)
In ten years we'll look back on this moment, laugh nervously, and quickly change the subject.
