wow! It looks like the Fulcrum was shot down more than any other crappy russian plane. I would just love to see it go up against a su-27.

Interestingly, USAF pilots have never scored a gun kill. All victory credits go to the AIM-9M (eight kills), AIM-7M twenty-five kills), and AIM-120 (four kills). So far the only country flying the F-15 that has utilized the 20mm gun in air-to-air combat is Israel. The aggressive IAF Eagle drivers reportedly have gotten up close and personal in their gun fights. They will bring their F-15 in as close as possible to a MiG, then use the 20mm gun in a scalpel-like manner to dissect their target and let it tumble to the ground. Most reports give the IAF credit with at least 50 confirmed air-to-air kills with their fleet, making the Israel Air Force the highest scoring MiG killers in the Eagle community.

F-15's, F-16's shot down a couple of Mig-29's during the Yugoslavia-Kosovo conflict.

* March 24, 1999: Yugoslav MiG-29 pilot Nebojša Nikolić departed from Batajnica Air Base. He encountered 24 NATO fighter jets. The MiG-29 evaded two enemy missiles before an American F-15 shot him down. Nikolić ejected at around 2,000 meters altitude and survived. According to US reports, two MiG-29s were shot down in the encounter, one by Captain Mike Shower and one by Lieutenant Colonel Cesar Rodriguez.[25] One MiG-29 was shot down by a Dutch F-16.

* March 26, 1999: Two Yugoslav MiG-29s took off from Batajnica to chase a lone NATO aircraft flying in direction of Bosnia. They crossed the border and were ambushed by a group of three US F-15s. Both MiGs were shot down by Captain Jeff Hwang.[25] One MiG pilot, Major Slobodan Perić evaded at least one missile before being hit. He ejected and was later smuggled back to Yugoslavia by the Republika Srpska police. The other pilot, Captain Zoran Radosavljević, did not eject and was killed.[26]

* On May 4, a Yugoslav MiG-29, piloted by Lt. Colonel Milenko Pavlović, was shot down over his native city Valjevo by two USAF F-16s. The falling aircraft was possibly hit as well by Strela 2 fired by Yugoslav troops. Pavlović was killed.[26]

The Su-27 has seen limited action since it first entered service. Ethiopian Su-27s reportedly shot down five Eritrean MiG-29s;[1][verification needed] in February 1999 and another on May 16, 2000.[2][3][verification needed] The Su-27s were also used in CAP (Combat Air Patrol) missions, suppression of air defense, and providing escort for fighters on bombing and reconnaissance missions.[4][verification needed] In the War in Somalia (2006-present), the EtAF used their Su-27s to deadly effect, bombing Islamist garrisons and patrolling the airspace.

The Su27 entered Angolan service in mid-2000. It is reported that one Su-27 in the process of landing,was shot down by SA-14 MANPADs fired by UNITA forces on 19 November 2000.[1][5]

Recently, in the 2008 South Ossetia War, Russia used Su-27s to gain airspace control over Tskhinvali, the capital city of South Ossetia.[6][7]

Read the article that I added to the OP, 2004 exercises with the Indian Air Force, Su-27 against F-15, they had no chance lol.

There were no mock dogfights between U.S. F-15's and Russian SU-27's, ever.

F-15's can lock on and destroy opposing jets at over 15 miles out. The F-15 doesn't even need to dog fight.

Dog fighting is something planes did 50 years ago.
The electronic weapons systems of the F-15 is way ahead of that of the SU-27.

The SU-27 would never get close enough to dog fight with an F-15, it would be shot down far out.

^^ So why does the US even need these Su-27?

It's for training!

It's because large numbers of those planes can be found around the world and the U.S. military wants to train our pilots against all of the potential foes they may encounter in future conflicts.

The U.S. Airforce/Navy have most of the best trained fighter pilots on Earth.

The SU-27 can do cool loopdaloops during airshows but can it detect and shot down an F-15 from 20 miles out?

The platform of the plane doesn't really matter as much as the weapons systems and the type of missiles it uses.

The SU-27 is great in terms of maneuverability and would probably beat the F-15 in close quarter dog fighting.
But jets don't close quarter dog fight these days.

It's all about developing longer-range missiles and trying to increase the distance you can kill an enemy.

The air force is developing UAV's that can fire air to air missiles against opposing planes. When that happens, all the other countries might as well dump their air forces because they will be obsolete.

What pilot would want to face a robot in combat?
