Something a lot of articles fail to mention about this incident, is that the cop was in plain clothes. Skip Gates had every right to ask for his identification and name to make sure that he was indeed a police officer. I know I have been approached by plain clothes officers and have asked the same. The cop probably thought who the fuck does this uppity N---er think he is, questioning me? Once the cops realized that Gates lived there, they should have left period. The had no right to be on that property as no crime was being committed. But no, the plain clothes officer radios for backup, and that is when nearly a dozen officers arrive at Gates' front porch.
If anyone agrees that being arrested for disorderly conduct, in your own house(which is the only charge in this case), is acceptable, then I guess you will be happy living in a police state.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 710324How do you know that the officer was in plain clothes?
