[link to 1.bp.blogspot.com] Quoting: CrankyProvidence, RI (The Weekly Vice) - In Providence, Rhode Island, there are no state laws or city ordinances in place to keep 16 and 17-year-old teens from working at strip clubs. It's a loophole in the law that has left taxpayers outraged and law enforcement officials powerless to do anything about it. Providence police became aware of the loophole while investigating a case of a 16-year-old runaway from Boston who began stripping at Cheaters Gentleman's club in Providence. According to Rhode Island state law, it is illegal for a minor to purchase or appear in pornographic material - but that doesn't prevent them from stripping for money. Child labor laws regulate the number of hours and the time of day minors can work. Sixteen and 17-year-olds are not allowed to pump gas or work in manufacturing. However, ‘Nowhere does it say anything about a kid not being able to strip,’ says youth services Sgt. Carl Weston. Although the law does state minors cannot be employed for "any lewd or indecent act", the terms 'lewd' and 'indecent' apparently do not include stripping because they apply to a behavior. Since strip clubs are legal and accepted in the state of Rhone Island, authorities say the are unable to define stripping as "lewd". Police are worried that the teens might offer sexual favors, which would also be legal, because the legal age of consent in the state is sixteen. [link to www.theweeklyvice.com] |

They don't need the hassles since they are having no trouble finding enough women 18 and older to strip for them. [link to newsblog.projo.com] For one thing, Shappy said, the poor economy has driven more women to the clubs' doors, searching for work. "We have so many girls who want to work," Shappy said. "Housewives, college students, office workers, hairdressers. I have an LPN, and RN, a girl at the ticket counter at Green [Airport]." |

Would be cool if R.I. became widely famous for it's kiddie strippers, a new tourist attraction. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73317216-17 is hardly kiddie.
