Dr. David McKalip forwarded this picture in an e-mail to about 150 people. PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A St. Petersburg doctor and conservative activist is facing criticism for an email that includes a picture depicting President Barack Obama as a witch doctor.
Dr. David McKalip, a neurosurgeon, forwarded the email to a group of conservative "tea party" leaders.
The picture shows Obama's face superimposed on what appears to be a witch doctor with the caption reading "Obama Care." The "C" in "Care" is a communist hammer and sickle.
McKalip didn't create the photo or the email, but his email was forwarded and eventually picked up by liberal blogs.

McKalip also said said he's backing away from advocating for conservative causes to concentrate on his medical practice and apologized for the email.
"Like a lot of folks, I forwarded and I didn't think properly about the content of the email and what it really meant and how it could hurt a lot of people," McKalip said.
McKalip also said he sent an apology directly to Obama for the email.
