I was watching the ABC nightly news with Traitor Gibson and all the other staff (too bad) and during the economy series they said in the end and I quote:

"we are going to have a jobless recovery"

green shoots, economy recovering, markets doing well...but uh..oh I am sorry, no one will be getting their jobs back

all smoke and mirrors folks...yup worse than the great depression

Nothing infuriates me more than the "too big to fail" excuse.

If banks become too big to fail-- or they destroy the world economy, they should clearly be broken up and the barriers to combining investment bank and retail banks in one institution should be raised back up again.

Why isn't legislation being passed that permits the downsizing of these banks happening?

The capitalist side of our finance sector is no longer free market, but it consists of mammoth banks that keep their profits and socialize their losses. They suck and don't support the economy with the lending and investing they are supposed to provide.

It's infuriating to me how the feds are keeping this economically perverted system afloat and do nothing to change it.

You know what this means, it means that the "recovery" -- if any occurs -- will be just a paper and liquidity one like the ones were earlier in this decade. We are not "recovering" in the sense that the economy has corrected some of its structural flaws and the markets have shifted. This is just a temporary reinflation of the unhealthy liquidity bubble.

IMO if we see any recovery at all, it will be just a short-term stall in the bubble burst that our leaders are trying to stave off, as if they can have an economy that never suffers market corrections.

Infuriates me too....
dont need federal legislation to downsize a public company...just let them fail...the peices will naturally be sold off and liquidated...the good parts will be bought up by smaller more prudent banks...thats good old fashioned american capitalism when you get the fuck out of the way with government intervention...Obama is a communist giving public money to private friends to purchase stocks in the market and execute a fake ralley to make money on the poor slobs who thinkg the economy is BACK...fools

But that is the point, in the 1920's most people were used to a very low standard of living (especially so, when compared by today's standard), they knew how to look after themselves (and each other) because they knew their neighbours. Times were very hard, but so were the people were also hard.

This time, Amerika is full of softies, used to everything landing in their laps. Suburbs now spraw on for miles and miles. The old farming infrastructure is now (big) agribusiness, the small hard working farmers are long gone. EVERYTHING is on a knife edge compared with 80 years ago. If law and order breaks down, then Amarika is a goner. This is the reason for all the FEMA camps - that, until recently, the existence of which, was denied!

Yep.. ask anyone you know too kill & dress a chicken and watch the comedy act that follows. Are there exceptions? Sure there are.... 32 of them.

The thing is... it won't get that bad. If the Super Markets shut down for 24 hours in this land or any other "domesticated" land, all good people will be standing in line to sell or ship their children to the camps if thats what it takes to feed.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
I have wondered just how things are supposed to turn around?

There is no longer a big enough job base to pull us out of the gutter.

Seems like that is the kicker between the great depression and what is ahead.

We have been set up for failure any way you look at it.

Not enough jobs to pay the amount of taxes needed to feed the gov and not enough common sense for anything to be done about it.

Our workers just can not work cheap enough to change that and how nobody saw it coming is just crazy.

"Free trade" has kicked us in the balls.

The last time they went on and on about "a strong dollar policy", the dollar devalued against other currencies a significant amount. It has rebounded since, but is now once again on it's way down.

IF you live in a state which is run by democrats you will be a long time climbing out of this disaster. Oregons unemployment rate is almost as high as Michigan something like 13%, boneheaded senate voted to tax the small business
like we have it to give.

DO NOT MOVE TO OREGON we are screwed here.. boneheads running the state who have not a clue about $$$$$$$ iF your from CA? MOve on to Washington,LEAVE.. now! If your an illegal alien.. GO HOME! This state is a mess, any business done is nothing but a dead cat bounce .. next fall we will be virtually done for.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
Perhaps I'm daft, or perhaps red is indeed blue, up is down, and left is right, but how on earth can the economy recover if people are loosing their jobs left and right, having hours and pay cut, immigrants and refugees pouring in my the millions, and overwhelmingly living off state benfits, meanwhile our rampant consumer credit based culture mindset is still intact. What changed? You're telling me that in less than a year, everyone learned their lesson, Wall Street is no longer a giant ponzi scheme, people are living within their means, etc...? How can an economy recover if people don't have any money to put back into the economy? How can the economy recover as Amerca continues its descent into a giant service industry? Either we're all too dumb to understand the how this recovery is happening, or something is seriously afoot. And yes, I know what all the theories say, but why haven't they happened yet? What happened to the "Summer of Hell?" What are TPTB waiting for?

LOL... well, seeing I jacked the thread with the chicken comment I guess I owe it something useful.

1) I gut my fowl while they are still warm.

2) A great trick for pin feathers- if the bird is in mid molt, have a bit of paraffin melted in the water your dipping the bird into. Give the bird a good coating of that wax and when it cools, you just peal it off. 99% of the pin feathers come with it. Ends up smooth as a baby's bottom

Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression

 Quoting: Redheaded Stepchild

Good to see you posting again RHSC.

You gotta wonder how candid Bernanke is. This comes on the heels of the fed's popularity at an all time low, pressure by Congress to audit their books and even the potential that if the economy keeps sinking after the "save the banks first" tactic fails the fed may be restructured or disbanded.
