Policeman takes 'big cat' video

[link to news.bbc.co.uk] An off-duty Ministry of Defence police dog handler has taken a video of what he claims is a panther-sized big cat.

Pc Chris Swallow was helping a friend with their garden in Helensburgh, Argyll, when he spotted the black creature on a nearby railway line.

The officer, who is stationed at the Faslane naval base on the Clyde, said the cat was as big as a Labrador dog.

Big cats have been reported in the area in the past, with several sightings of the so-called Coulport Cougar.

I've heard stories about creatures like this moving about the countryside, but never really believed them before

Pc Chris Swallow
Pc Swallow said he saw the animal on 30 June while working in the garden at Kildonan Drive, Helensburgh.

He could tell it was not a Labrador, as he first thought, because of the way it was walking, and because its tail was about twice the length that a dog's would have been.

He said: "My friend's house is next to the West Highland Line and at one point I looked down and saw what I first thought was a black Labrador on the tracks.

"There were trains coming and going throughout the day and I was a bit concerned, but when I looked again I saw that the animal wasn't moving the way I expected a dog to.

There have been many big cat reports from all over scotland just not many with pictures but this is proof there are big cats out there and to be seen in day light it must be hungary or there are lots of big cats around.

The big cats are natural and have their place everywhere. If the cat didn't kill no one they are probably still going to kill the cat.

There are Puma up there and the wild scottich cats... that are alot smaller than that. That looks like it from the Panthera family and probably not fully grown.

Your right that for it to be seen in daytime hours is as rare as it gets...so hopefully there are lots up there! Theres nothing like a big Cat :D

Saw a pic today in a newspaper of another big cat, 95% sure myself its was a lynx, what type? bobcat, canadian, eurasian?

As for what this policeman captured footage of in scotland, no idea, looks like a panther/jaguar, but hard to judge scale, could be a black lynx i guess, think those are pretty damn rare though.

I have seen big cat's in my state. The tail of that cat is too short and bushy. Just a large house cat.

Most definately a black lab. The manner in which it was walking (moving) was like a dog.

Big cats do not move in that manner. I've watched too many programs on big cats to know they do not walk like this.

The police man failed. I watched the video 3 times.

It is a black lab.

Just watched it 2 more times. It's too sloppy when it walks.

I'm telling you, if it's not a black lab, it's another black dog....

Either way, thanx for the video OP

Some kind of dog. Seriously small, or big cats dont walk sloppy like this animal is.

Cats of all sizes walk with stealth, and are more regal.

Maybe the officer did think he saw a big cat, or was expecting it to be a big cat....

But the more and more you disect the video, it's too careless in it's walk, and it slips off to the bush to probably pee.

Cats mark territory, but are not that quick while marking ..

Oh no it is not. I have worked at a zoo, and have owned a black lab.....that animal is too long and low to be a dog, and the tail is all wrong. Its a cat, no doubt about it.
