HAHAHA I tried for a year to GIVE my car back. The dealer wouldn't take it. The bank didn't want it. I ever told them I would deliver it to the repo yard for free.....

Finally after a year they had a guy come get it. Had it ready to go and he was gone in 5 min...

i've been unemployed since march and unable to land another job. fuck off.

So again... your being unemployed and possessing no marketable skills is the banks fault how? You think the bank 'owes' you a free ride? You think you were somehow taken advantage of by the bank when you got your car loan?

Be responsible, not another bottom feeder.

I use to repo cars . If you want to keep it for a while swap vehicles with someone for a while, someone not listed as a refference. And do not tell a soul .Family and freinds WILL screw you, seen it many times. Also do not park the swapped vehicle in your address they can check address from the plate # and do a drive by at the swappee's residents. If you do this correctly you can drive it for a very long time. Good luck.

If he had done that when he still had a job and the payments were current, it might of worked...no way would it work once the repo man is searching for your car.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Actually many cars bought nowadays that have payments will have a GPS tracking device installed in them. If you try to disable it the car will not start. I had one of those before.
And I don't think they have to tell you if one is installed in the car or not. They just happened to tell us when we got ours.

You should buy a bug detector (you can get them off ebay for like $200) and sweep the car, then find the device yourself.

They will find your car.

Were I in that situation, if I could sell the car and have any cash left over after paying off the bank... I would take the money and buy myself an old klunker to drive.

Otherwise... just turn it in and walk away.

That's what I am attempting to do right now and am actually only 3 days away from being current again (3-1/2 yrs into 5-yr loan) but I was just curious about something.
By the way, I'm not trying to be outright evasive, just trying to cover my butt between now and the time my payment is fully credited.
I have a locked garage so all good there and work at home so not out very much anyway, but for the few times I go to store, etc., does anyone know the laws relating to if you leave your dog in the car? Do they differ by state? (I'm California)
I got that they can't tow/take if a person is in the car, but what about a 90-lb Black Lab? Would they take the time to call Animal Control? And if they just opened the door and lured him out somehow and then just took off, would they be liable in any way?
P.S. This forum was the *best* resource I found in searching for more than hour!

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
If you don't use your actual living address on anything then they have no way of finding you. If you give your actual address to another bank (or more or less any corporation) then they might be able to find you.

My recommendation is to give the car up or sell it if it is still worth around or more than the outstanding balance. I assume that you have also let the insurance expire, in which case they have added their own insurance at an outrageous rate, which is adding onto your loan monthly. They will eventually get the car, and the longer it takes the larger the loan balance will be. Then, they will sell it at auction for a fraction of what it is actually worth. In the end you will be left with most of the balance and no car.

I bet for the loan you gave your social security number.

And when you got your cable/dish hook up you used to social security number, and when you applied for that store card, got a bank account, applied to rent, applied for the mortgage on your house.... last time you saw a doctor... on and on the list goes.

Folk are all worried about the 'number of the beast' think is you already have a number, and its used to track you and your credit score and everyone uses it/wants it.

If I have your social security number I can find you in less than a day, just by chasing the trail of placed you have used it. Phone, Cable, water/Sewage, trash, electric are the first places to check out, after all you used the number to get services for the residence.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Buying a clunker is not as easy as it sounds these days. Cash for clunkers eviscerated the used car market, and drove up cars that used to sell for $600 (true clunkers) to $1,500. That is if you can even find a true clunker these days.

Still, I would recommend trying to sell the car somehow and finding the difference (if you are upside down). If enough time passes they will use legal action to rape your bank account if you have direct deposit or money in an account. They have many other tools to fuck you.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Oh, and if you keep making payments they CANNOT take your car normally, even if you are behind by large amounts.

This means that if your car payment is 200 bucks, pay 200 bucks and they cant take it. Now, if your car payment is 200 bucks and you have no car insurance, and they added their own car insurance at an additional 200 bucks, then you have to pay 400 bucks to keep them from being able to take it.

if you have friends that own the same model and color car you do , be sure and warn them the repo man is hunting your car, so when they repo your friends she doesnt freak out and think its stolen >.< Although it was pretty funny when the police made them bring me back my car !!!

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Yes. in time they will. If you have a GPS disconnect it completely. If you have "on star" or some other service that provides voice communication with a manufacturers "center" get rid of that system NOW! Both can be used to locate you within a matter of inches or feet anywhere in the US.

Go to the junk yard and get a ignition key cylinder and then put it in place of teh old one. You will be able to start the car, but a repo man won't have a working key. Won't stop him, but it may slow him down a bit.

Park where they cannot load you onto a trailer tow truck or pick up your front wheels or rear wheels and take it away. A busy garage in a city is a great place for such crowded conditions but be sure to tip the garage attendants well so they'll protect your car by not moving others to create access to it!

In the end they'll get the car no matter what. Get new transport lined up somehow and use the tactics above to forestall the inevitable. Good luck. I once avoided giving a car back for well over a year when a lease was up. And they didn't find it, until I had a friend take the car into them and say "here it is" asshole!

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Maybe you could drive the car to South America and see if anyone there would trade you. I don't know if it would work, but in theory it sounds like it would. You also could park your car somewhere idiotic on purpose where you know it would get stolen and chopped. Afterwards report it stolen and file for the insurance. It may or may not be worth it depending on your insurance and the car genuinely would be stolen, so it's hard to prove you did anything illegal. I'm not advocating you do this, I'm just saying you could.

If you can't make your payment, turn in the car to the finance company. You want the car to be in as good a condition as possible, though. The better the condition of the car, the more the finance company can resale it for, reducing your balance with them.
As to all the comments about vandalizing cars before they are repossessed or hiding cars from the finance company, I say this: I hope you die...

For some people it's harder to do it like that. Example: I bought a my car only because my boss told me I had to. I was in sales and had to use my own personal car....I financed it for 5 years, 4 years after owning the car my boss died and the company I was working for closed down.

I have paid 51 of 60 notes and have falled behind do to unemployment not being enough to cover rent and the car, and I have not been able to find another job that pays enough to cover both. To date I have paid 23,521.00 on a vehicle I financed for 19,000.00 (yes I understand how financing works ..so don't even!)

For the last 3 months I have been making payments of about 1/3 my actual amount...so not full payments but more then half. When I spoke to the lender yesterday the man was rude and told me that good faith payments are worthless and I should just turn in the car.

So how do you just turn in a car that you only have 9 payments left on?

When the lender will not work with you when you are this far along in payments it should be illegal.

So yes in some cases it would be best to hide the vehicle until you could figure out a way to pay for it. Instead of loosing everything you have got into it.
