Can you gift it to someone, sell it for a dollar. If repo hasn't come for it yet, that may work.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
i've been unemployed since march and unable to land another job. fuck off.

So again... your being unemployed and possessing no marketable skills is the banks fault how? You think the bank 'owes' you a free ride? You think you were somehow taken advantage of by the bank when you got your car loan?

Be responsible, not another bottom feeder.

i will no longer respond to this self-rightous shill. i am talking about survival here. and i have marketable skills, just in the wrong market. you stupid bitch.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Yes. in time they will. If you have a GPS disconnect it completely. If you have "on star" or some other service that provides voice communication with a manufacturers "center" get rid of that system NOW! Both can be used to locate you within a matter of inches or feet anywhere in the US.

Go to the junk yard and get a ignition key cylinder and then put it in place of teh old one. You will be able to start the car, but a repo man won't have a working key. Won't stop him, but it may slow him down a bit.

Park where they cannot load you onto a trailer tow truck or pick up your front wheels or rear wheels and take it away. A busy garage in a city is a great place for such crowded conditions but be sure to tip the garage attendants well so they'll protect your car by not moving others to create access to it!

In the end they'll get the car no matter what. Get new transport lined up somehow and use the tactics above to forestall the inevitable. Good luck. I once avoided giving a car back for well over a year when a lease was up. And they didn't find it, until I had a friend take the car into them and say "here it is" asshole!

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
Not only will they find you, but they can involve the sheriff, which means you'll face criminal charges for theft. Repo guys can't just show up at your house and take your car. Prior to that, they actually alert the local police department, so the cops already know. While they won't do anything because this is a civil action, they can provide info. And the sheriff CAN get involved if the bank/creditor files a theft charge against you. Give it up and take the bus.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 657905

This is simply not true. They do not notify the police and the cops do not have any idea. If they are unable to find you or if they do find you and you refuse to give up the car, then they can take action through the court system and possibly the sheriff.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
I crossed paths with the repo man looking for my 06 Avalanche for over 24 months. He followed me for about 10-12 miles, and then a small snatch truck, (tow truck) started following him... In short, I knew he was there, I had seen him driving around my house for a long time, but the truck never slept at my house. The man even slept all night below my 3rd story windo in his car hoping to catch me coming or going.. In any case, I pulled into a Walmart parking lot to confront him. he got out and demanded the keys to my truck or he would call the cops. I told him to go ahead and call them. The snatch truck got in front of my truck, and the guy's car was behind my truck. When I saw the tow truck driver sprinting for my front door, I ran and beat him to it, and jumped in. About 15 minutes later the cops showed up, they told the cops the truck was reported stolen by the bank, but they didn't show any information against my vin number. The cop asked me if I was willing to give the truck to the repo man and I said absolutely NOT. So the cop told him to leave me alone and try to catch me next time. Then, the repo man threatened me in front of the cops... (dumb Ass) saying he would break into my house to get my truck and that we were going to see how tough I was then.. (I have a very secure garage, and if you don't have the key, you have to rip the door off) So I told the cops that I wanted to press charges against him and his buddy for threats against my person and property... Next thing I know, the repo man and his friend were told in front of me that because of what he said in front of them, they could not come near me anymore after I filed an injunction against them, using the cops as my witnesses.... (A week later, I started seeing a different repo man driving around my neighborhood, they're too obvious...) In short, I returned the truck about 7 months later when I was good and ready, and only after I was able to purchase another similar truck in cash.

The only reason I did all this, is because I paid over $17,000 for the truck and I was only $4,500 short of paying it off when I lost my job, I made another 2 payments and then started getting into trouble, but the bank wouldnt have it, they wanted my truck 2 weeks after defaulting on my payment and sent the repo man to get it. After 3 months of not being able to make the payment everything got so expensive I decided to just keep it and deal with the consequences as they appeared.. Turns out, it's fairly easy to keep your vehicle for a long time if you play your cards right....

Suggestions for avoiding skip tracers:

MOVE ASAP!!!

Dont use your debit card...
Go to Metropcs and get yourself a phone with any name and address other than your own...
Only give out this number to your closest friends, and don't use it to comunicate with the bank or any of it's agents...
Go to Walgreens and get yourself a prepaid VISA card, and use your parents or a friends address, and only use it, far away from your home.
Always keep your car inside a garage, and if you suspect the big bad repo man is out there, get into the car and refuse to get out unless the cops TELL you you MUST relinquish the vehicle... (Most states prohibit repo men from hooking up a car with people in it)...

Remember, repo men are people who don't like to work, so a job looking for people is right up their alley. They sit on a computer all day eating donuts watching porn, then go out and drive around all night until they see your car and either hook it, or call in a tow truck to get it. Most people just give them the keys and they make their money, but if you're smart, you will fight tooth and nail for your car and give them hell...
Also, don't forget that in most states, if you see suspicious activity inside your property, you can snipe them off from your window to protect your property, but try to hit them in a leg or something.. I would personally love a claymore mine somewhere around the car that will either blow his legs off, or destroy his snatch truck with him in it.

And, if all else fails, try to incite the repo man to hit you or break something of yours, then turn around and call the cops on him and have his punk @ss arrested... Getting a repo man arrested or kicked out of your property, is the sweetest revenge...

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
ALWAYS KEEP SOMETHING ON TOP OF THE VIN NUMBER ON THE DASH. A REPO MAN WILL ALWAYS WALK TO THE CAR AND MAKE SURE THE VIN MATCHES BEFORE THEY EVEN TOUCH IT. IF THEY GET THE WRONG CAR THEY COULD BE SUED FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS...

The ideal thing would be to get the same car and park it without a tag on your property and cover the vin, then sue their asses off when they take the wrong car!!!!

IF POSSIBLE PARK THE CAR IN A FENCED IN YARD WITH NO TRESPASSING SIGNS ATTACHED THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU.

Also, try to have another car parked behind yours making sure you have walls in front and on the sides of the car.. They have these little jacks with four wheels on them that it takes one man about 3 minutes to lift your car 1 inch off the ground and can push it by hand anywhere he wants to...

Repo men usually hook cars, and park them in nearby parking lots so a bigger 2, or 3 car tow truck picks them up and takes them to their little hiding spot while they keep looking for other cars in your area, if your car is gone, try to drive around your nearest grocery stores or big parking lots with keys in hand, and be ready to jump in your car if you see it and haul ass, you may be surprised...

Another more desperate measure is to chain the front end of your car every night (preferably the steering system) to something very strong, that way, when they come and try to haul ass with it, they will rip the front end off, and at least, they won't get it in perfect condition... Don't forget that repo men are usually cowards who like to get your car without you knowing, so most likely as soon as they hook your car, they will try to speed off to a "safe place"

I say keep it as long as you can and make these unskilled laborers actually work for their money. (Anyone can skip trace with the right resources... ANYONE)
As an earlier post states, IT IS ILLEGAL TO HOOK UP A CAR WITH PEOPLE IN IT, at least in most states, so if you have the chance, get in the car and stay in it AND DON'T LET THE COPS OR THE REPO MAN CONVINCE YOU TO GET OUT OF THE CAR UNLESS THE COPS ACTUALLY TELL YOU, TO YOUR FACE THAT YOU WILL BE ARRESTED IF YOU DON'T GET OUT!!!

Finally, if the repo man is too persistent, and you fear he will get the car, then take all the oil out of it, and give it hell until the engine seizes, but try to hit every hole you see out there to make sure the suspension and steering go to sh!t, and if possible go 4 wheeling with it.. always without oil... dont forget... If you really want to destroy it, then jumping hills and flipping it would be a VERY, VERY fun way to get revenge even though their insurance will pay for it, the repo man will take a heap of trash and may not get paid for all his work, remember, the more time it takes the repo man to get it, the less money he's making off of your car...

OnStar

My advice. Just call the finance company and ask "where do you want it?" and then drop it off.

It's easier to just face the facts, and deal with things as they are rather than trying to skip.

OR.... you can also file for BK and any repo action is stayed pending a ruling by a judge. You might want to talk to an attorney.

Just say'n.

You might want to read up on the Fair Debt Collections Act.

Go ahead and try that with someone who knows the law, and your $100 check will turn into a $10,000 fine, court costs, attorney's fee, and the loss of your debt collection business license, if you had one (and if you didn't have one, add another $5,000 fine and 30 days in the pokey).

Or... you can pay for the car, let the guy keep it... and a good attorney will look the other way ..... this time.

just keep your car inside a garage and cover the windows. they can't repo it unless it is out in the open. Inside a garage it would be breaking and entering just to find that it is there.

Well, they will probably get your friends to turn you in. That's what apparently happened to a cousin of mine. He was mooching off of the people and living with them. I guess they got tired of it and agreed to meet the repo people with the vehicle. When they looked through the vehicle, they found pawn shop receipts where said cousin was stealing tv's from stores and pawning them. Said cousin is apparently in jail.

FYI

it must be so so nice to be you. you must have a somewhat secure job, especially to make comments like that. without any concideration for other people. I'll go out on a limb here and say I seriously doubt this person has bought the vehicle with the intention of not paying it off.

if you havent noticed the economy has literally turned to absolute shit. more and more people are becoming unemployed and are loosing their lives with their livelyhoods, having to now deal with survival and starting over which at a bare minimum you at least need a car and time to get enough cash to get a myriad of things including yet another vehicle cause by that time, they want the full balance of what you owe on your vehicle.

I am against the current administration and the direction they wish to take america. but when i consider people like you i find myself hoping obama succeeds, and then we will see how you do under pressure of loosing it all and picking up the pieces. then perhaps you too will understand the dead beat advice you gave and realize how heartless it is.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
If you can't afford to finance a car, then don't do it. Pretty simple. You can buy perfectly reliable used cars for less than $1000. I've done it. Then I saved up what would have been spent on car payments over the next year and bought a newer, nicer vehicle. I could have talked my husband into getting me a new car, but that would have been stupid. They are not immune to breaking down either, and they lose half their value when you drive them off the lot.

You should have read your contract before you signed it, and not put your John Hancock on it if you had a beef with how much money they were making off of you.

i said earlier i lost my job and haven't found another one yet. i have run out of money.

You are so intelligent to have posted your devious plot on a huge public forum....

Actually many cars bought nowadays that have payments will have a GPS tracking device installed in them. If you try to disable it the car will not start. I had one of those before.
And I don't think they have to tell you if one is installed in the car or not. They just happened to tell us when we got ours.

Re: How do repo men find your car if the finance company doesn't have a current work or home address?
All very good ideas, heres what happened with me

I was half through paying my loan to a buy here pay here and work went bad, the lot had my old address which was on the other side of the city 60+ miles...

Cops drive through the complex pulling tags looking for warrants, easy tickets, etc... a few days later Im looking out the window waiting for my girl to get home and here is the repo thug walking towards my car, Now our fence is very close to the back of the car so there is no getting a truck in there to tow it you have to drive off.

It was obvious who they were so I grabbed my Pellet Rifle opened my window and aimed it at him before he was even at the car door. Told him to walk back to his car and not come back, and if he didnt leave I would be forced to fire on him.

Now my pelet gun is from the late 80's and doesnt have the orange tip so without really looking at it up close it looks real. I followed him with the scope to his truck and told him I was installing surveilance and If i caught him within 20 ft of my property I would shoot to kill.

An hour later he shows back up with the police, who had gotten not only a call from him but also from a few of my neighbors about the incident. Long story short I showed the police the pellet gun and found out that if he made it into the car he could take it.

He kept coming back So I disconnected the Intake Manifold's main vacuum line so the car couldnt stay on. Everytime he came Id shoot at him with the pellet, got him a few times too, once right in the eyebrow so After about 3 weeks of playing a great little game with the fucker he finally made it to my car while i was asleep, and towed it

They trace you just like a private investigator would. They'll find you and if they don't they'll file theft charges for the car. It's best to give in.
