Leave or Else - New Mandatory Evacuation Law September 1st

sooooo this this new law specify any attention to the "illegal aliens" or do they avoid Texas for the obvious "or else" clause (snicker)

I heard on talk radio this morning that the law was implemented to scare people into leaving. There is not enough law enforcement to force everybody from their homes.

Most callers said they stayed through Ike (sending their wives to safer areas) to protect their property from thieves, who don't leave. I think it should be left up to each individual to decide whether to stay or leave. If you really think you won't die in the wild winds that tear off the roofs and send trees crashing down, then that should be YOUR option.

The penalty comes when you have to pay for the rescue operation, like pulling you off the roof. And that's OK.

Until Houston has a VIABLE evacuation plan, you'd better plan on leaving two or three days ahead of time because it's for sure the nincompoops will screw it up just like they did during Rita. Mayor White should have been sued for his gross negligence for that fiasco.

while I dont agree with government FORCING people in a situation like this, or in many others as a fact, I do halfway agree with what you are saying here.

If you have been warned, then you should also be aware of the fact that if you choose to stay nobody is coming after you to rescue you.

Thats as far as any law should go.

Some places are already toying with the idea that if you put yourself deliberately in some kind of harm's way, (the example was used about extremely obese people having to be cut out of their homes) then you yourself should PAY the taxpayers back for what it cost to rescue you.

i would agree more with this than anything. But then you get into things like should a drunk driver have an ambulance sent to rescue him when he crashed? After all, he did put himself in that situation.

or worse than that what about things that are truly just accidents like a mountain hiker goes up a dangerous mountain on foot, slips and falls. Thousands of dollars to rescue him. Should he pay the taxpayers back for that?

So it could sticky.
