Sure enuff, that word is now used all over the world. LOL :) And I came up with "friggin" :) As in..."I am friggin hungry", or "I am friggin cold"! Seriously though, it is funny how words or phrases take hold.... I remember the following coming in and out of circulation - and thinking that once I started using these terms lo and behold EVERYONE did as well: "He's HISTORY", "You're HISTORY", "That's HISTORY" (back in the 80s) "Sorta kinda in a roundabout way" (later 80's early 90s) "Cool Beans"! - Mid 90s "That's so Funny..." Early part of this decade Currently I've been on a "Well there ya go" fad..... Of course, I do realize I didn't actually author any of these - but still, it is funny to say something once, then realize you're saying it quite frequently, then hearing other people do it too! I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. ~ Robert Heinlein |

Well, I don't know if I get credit or not, but back in the 90's, there was an apartment full of guys in a friend's complex. You know the type - backwards red hats, Ford Rangers with only the front lifted, blaring Sublime and 311 all the time...I started calling them "Bros" and it seems to have stuck, since I hear that term all the time now for those types. |

Few people from the younger generation are familiar with Popeye's phrase, " I Yam what I Yam...." Well from that, I came up with "It is what it is..." I remember using that phrase back in the early 80's when I started calling sports shows and right wing talk shows on the radio. I would always close out my comments about a political topic or about a team's performance or about an athlete by saying, " Oh well. It is what it is..." And that's how that phrase got started - on talk radio! |
