Are Creative people just attention seekers?

Good Deal! I found out earlier in the year (maybe it was late spring)that my 10 year old is not in school any longer and doing a version of home-schooling. I guess they still have books and everything, but have to log-on to something online to take tests.

Insist that your child start a business of his/her own........even if it is door to door, it's a great way to start!

That's complete bullshit. I've known a lot of adore-me, center-of-attention types with enough ego-need to kill a cow; and they lacked all tendencies toward creativity. And I have know a few of those types who are also creative. The two tendencies - adore me types vs. creatives, however, do not have anything to do with each other.

I also have known and do know a lot of highly creative people who don't give a shit if they are recognized or adored. They do what they do because it is an inherent part of their nature, not because someone else will think they are cool.

Truly creative people are creative because they can't help it, it's not attention seeking, it's soothing the inner demons.

I create because that's what I do...if someone likes it that's all the better.

I used to be able to actually get money from creativity.

But, of course now a days everyone is better than everyone else, regardless of medium...

...the whole concept was completely lost.

Gawd isn't that the truth.........you can't even afford to rent a store front any more! Well you can, but you just end up paying all your profits to a landlord!!! :(

some are like that.. usually those types start a emo band or something.

most are actually quiet non center of attention types, some do not have a voice in their daily life. they speak through their art and to it. still many do not believe they are heard or felt by others through their work. it's ok , they don't always start something with that intent, they are only speaking to the medium they use to create with (canvas, paper, sound etc) then letting it communicate something back. sometimes it's to discover something about themselves or the universe around them. if they are trying to speak with others through their work, it's because they feel it is necessary that others will see something or will have an awakening or revelation. some want to give beauty or their inner self to others. it's also a drive , it's something they have to do.

By the way, the movie about "Buck Howard", played by John Malkovich; was supposed to be a some-what true life story about the life of the "Amazing Kreskin"........for those who didn't know.

another thing that you can do with creating something
is say the unspeakable. express things that can not be expressed or said through normal routes.

you can get by with saying "forbidden" things through art. sometimes you can't outright say certain things which are deemed dangerous and or against popular opinion. you can insinuate them , hide them, make them abstract, yet very clear in their message to the receptive.

Then all things with Soul, Create...........but of course!

Exactly! Another good reason for being a Co-Creator! IMHO

And thus we become "Seers".......for as we see it, so does it become!

You don't create to get attention. You create because you have to. Most often attention kills the creativity because those who are not strong of mind will let others dictate what is good once a monetary value is attached to art.

After years of you tube and scientific discovery along with plenty of species interactions.

I find that most all animals have a personal gift to give.

Be it monkeys, birds, dolphins, octopi, dogs, rats, kitties or humans...

There is a tendency for some to show to have a particular special trait, that stands out from one to the other in the same species.

There is a reason for this, but science hasn't gathered the big picture yet....need more data.

I deduce an inter species language..the language of Life itself.

Yet, no one species can grasp the concept yet.

It would of been nice to have made oodles of money to by my freedom, but by the time I learned the ropes well enough time had passed me by.

Like they say it takes money to make money, especially when it comes to developing inventions. Computer programming was great, but I never did anything beyond Basic, which would slow to a crawl just as the programs started to do something. From inventing I learned that virtual inventions would be a lot easier to get off the ground. Sudoku innovations kept me busy for awhile and still may have potential, but that fad has waned.

A bit of noteriety was fun and interesting at the time, but one of my main motivations was to use the proceeds to purchase protection from persecution that publishing the TimeTable of Doom might engender.

GLP enables me to publish anonomously, so the goal was/is realized, although I must continue to work at creative problem solving in an unique engineering enviorment.

I've actually heard that the animal kingdom is but an extension of our own spirit........thus, if that is true; then why couldn't they be as creative as well? ;)

Very interesting what you have said.........and I've noticed that in so many of the Art Studio's, the owners lack that creative spark(although they think they are the cat's meow!) lol

I once listened to an art dealer tell me that my woodburning of a Dear/Bear was worthless........although I sold it that very day for $400 dollars to a guy building a cabin in the woods. lol

I think a lot of us here feel the same way! GLP is a great place for "Creativity"! Indeed!!! :)

my dear I have been an artist all my life, studied it, do it, teach it.

Warhol was exploring this illusion that the art world sold "fine art" commercially, thus it became commercial art. so Andy took his commercial art background and turned it into fine art.

of course real "art" is the souls need to communicate it's self and the world around it. This is priceless.

god is all things.

at one point i would burn all my paintings into ash- this ash became a new medium. a freedom from the old- AND it taught me what it must feel like for "god" to destroy it's creations.

Creativity is something I need an outlet for and I have made many ways to manifest it.

I have had the good blessing to make a living at it, in the past, and will do so again when I am ready.

If I enjoyed the attention and the need to feel admired I would be financially well off by now...but I tend to shun the limelight.

My creativity has been my friend and solace all my life. To create something no one has created before is an awesome gift, whether it manifests itself in music, art, gardening or photography.

That someone else finds it intriguing, moving or enjoyable is just icing on the cake.

Most people go into creative industries because that is their passion, we are born creators, musicians, scientists, artists and philosophers. Talents and arts are part of our being.

Creative expression is wonderful when it truly is creative. Even cooking a meal is a creative expression when done with creativity.

Actors and other 'performing artists' tend to be attention whores, desperately in need of validation.
