As an ex-Brit, I’m well aware of the authorities’ love of surveillance and snooping, but even I, a pessimistic cynic, am amazed by the governments latest plan: to install Orwell’s telescreens in 20,000 homes.
£400 million ($668 million) will be spend on installing and monitoring CCTV cameras in the homes of private citizens. Why? To make sure the kids are doing their homework, going to bed early and eating their vegetables. The scheme has, astonishingly, already been running in 2,000 family homes. The government’s “children’s secretary” Ed Balls is behind the plan, which is aimed at problem, antisocial families. The idea is that, if a child has a more stable home life, he or she will be less likely to stray into crime and drugs.
It gets worse. The government is also maintaining a private army, incredibly not called “Thought Police”, which will “be sent round to carry out home checks,” according to the Sunday Express. And in a scheme which firmly cements the nation’s reputation as a “nanny state”, the kids and their families will be forced to sign “behavior contracts” which will “set out parents’ duties to ensure children behave and do their homework.”
And remember, this is the left-wing government. The Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling, batting for the conservatives, thinks these plans are “too little, and too late,” implying that even more obtrusive work needs to be done. Rumors that a new detention center, named Room 101, is being constructed inside the Ministry of Love are unconfirmed.
this is what's planned for the USA if we don't stop this shit NOW Few will listen,
Of the few who listen, fewer still will understand,
Understanding does not mean believe,
Of the handful who believe, most may not know what to do,
Those who even know, how many will actually do ?
And the rare ones who have done it.......
Need not listen to you anymore.

But we like it like that. Safe and secure under the watchful eyes of the state. They know what's best for us.

STOCK UP NOW. You should have at least 6 months worth of basics for every member of your household. Stay away from crowds when trouble starts, do not forget water storage, tobacco is worth more than gold or silver, and be kind to hungry children.

I lived in the UK for nearly 20 years, and until I moved away I never realized just how Orwellian the country had become. What really gets me is the apathy of the British that is mistaken for some kind of Patriotism.
I can only hope that more news stories like these will wake people from their slumbers and help them realize their rights are being stripped away faster and faster. Unfortunately, the reality is that probably isn't going to happen until its too late.
This is why efforts like the Political Action Committee MUST BE SUCCESSFUL.
As soon as boundaries like this are taken away, there is nothing stopping the world government from taking away every last one of our inalienable rights. The rights that are not granted to us by the laws or customs of religion or government - the ones that we are all BORN WITH.

I myself will be placing webcams around the home - specifically the kitchen if I breed that is. And I will be watching from my office computer.
If the children are helping themselves to goodies from the fridge without asking their mother I will spring into action. Also if they put their feet on the sofa with their shoes on.

Re: UNBELIEVABLE!! Britain extending CCTV to private homes!!!
So active prevention of (violent) crime is less important than giving up a little privacy of families who are registered as antisocial and/or criminal? What if this plan works out well and these children manage to educate themselves and go higher on the social ladder? I think a little sacrifce of privacy is worth the long term benefits.
Good outweighs the bad. Bad loses, society wins. And more importantly, the children are the biggest winners here. Remember, children are the future. What good is a next generation when its hooked on pot and booze and can only steal cars? How's that for a professional career, hotwiring YOUR car?

Some of these ideas are not bad at all. For example to fight fatness it might be proferred that the social services put webcams in the volunteer families Kitchens so people can check on the families eating habits over the week. And send reports to the parents etc. It has to be voluntary i am assuming.

Re: UNBELIEVABLE!! Britain extending CCTV to private homes!!!
what's wild is that George Orwells vision is becoming a scary reality. I said this on yesterdays thread.
They came for the broken families, but because I wasn't in one, I said nothing. Then they came for the delinquent tax evaders (to make sure they weren't spending the money they owed the gov't on the wrong things) but because I didn't have any tax issues, I didn't say anything. Then they came for the obese who cost taxpayers more money (to watch and make sure they weren't buying/eating the wrong foods) but because I didn't have a weight problem, I didn't say anything. Then they came for me....just in case...
Why is england becoming sooo creepy?
