Re: Has anyone else seen an orange ball in the sky tonight over london?
OK, I have done a little research and now have come up with a reasonable explaination. I live in Chicago and earlier replied to your post with my own description of what I saw.

After doing a little research, and if you saw your object in a fairly clear sky, or at least no rain..... it was probably a chinese lantern balloon. These are small hot air balloons that can be purchased at skylanterns.com. The videos I saw on the website pretty closely match what I saw.

They are apparently popular in thailand and I live near an asian community ( 1 mile away). The winds aloft on the night I saw my object were consistant with the path the object followed. The asian community is also upwind of my house for that night. The flickering and color of the flames that generate the lift are also consistant with what I saw.

So, I don't think we are being invaded.

The balloons are cylindrical in shape and can be 2 meters tall and 1.5 meters in diameter.

just had another look out on my balcony and saw it for myself I too belive they are chinese lantern balloons as I just saw one carsed off, and movement it was doing was the same as the balloons that you were talking about and the wind was consistant with the path that the object followed.

I was up on a hill earlier looking down at the london eye fire work display . Saw around 20 of those orange balls in all directions ,as I was stationary I had a chance to observe them. I am going to agree with the poster who claims they were likely lantern things.

its most likely one of these , when in motion it looks like a orange ball of plasma.

Whew...what IS that thing?

Thought I'd seen all the UFO vids of note. That is so clear and obvious.

I'm not an expert but it doesn't look photoshopped.

Also, if it were a gvt black budget/secret craft it would nonetheless have to get ATC permission for using the airspace.

Most jurisdictions impose altitude restrictions over built up areas. That thing looks like it was flying too low over the city to be one of ours. Military etc just would not fly that low over residences on just a test flt.

Re: Has anyone else seen an orange ball in the sky tonight over london?
I was havering troubles trying to get to sleep but I was laying there on my bed warching a movie around 1:20 am. I could see out of the corner of my eye a bright orange- red colour ball. I live in Port Elgin Ontario. I looked to watch and it wasn't flashing and it moved A bit faster then a plane and really smoothly. This was last night May 5, 2012. I went back to watching my movie, scared, and I see it again on the exact same path... So this is when I get up to see if I could film it and show friends. I was waiting if I could find another one but then I didn't see it again.

orange ball in sky last night it was huge ball of fire it looked like scared the hell out of me it went over my house and into the distance almost as if it was going back out into space i live in chippenham wiltshire i also managed to take a picture of it on my phone
 Quoting: gazzauk 745418

Hey,
I also live near Chippenham (Corsham) and have just seen the exact same thing tonight. Cannot understand what the hell it was. Was quite low and moving fairly fast with no sound at all. It moved in a dead straight line and disappeared into the distance. Was not a comet or meteor as was very low and the light was artificial orange, like a street lamp, but quite large. My husband and I still cannot understand what it was and he works in the aerospace industry!!! Neither of us have seen anything like it before.

Re: Has anyone else seen an orange ball in the sky tonight over london?
Walking my dog in Bournemouth tonight in a quiet park area (no traffic noise) between 9-9.30pm, saw something out the corner of my eye, looked up & saw 2 orange balls "cruising" along in the sky. They were unusually large, bright & silent. I was so mesmerised by them I didn't think to get my phone out & video them, just watched them until they disappeared!!! I thought that would never happen again for the rest of my life & how I had missed an opportunity. I live very near to the airport so knew they were not any form of plane or helicopter.
Then, 10 minutes later, another one!!! Fantastic. All of these moving west to east.
I assume they were some sort of comet?

I saw what looked like a big orange Paul flying across the sky it wasn't making any noise but couldn't be a plane and there were no satellites in the area at that time. I'm in west seattle as well and I have over a minute of footage but there are bad words in the audio! :)) I was with two other friends last night that saw it too

Yes tonight over Ayrshire Scotland. Two large glowing orange balls going across the sky.
Anyone got any ideas? Definitely not Chinese lanterns as they were travelling too fast.
