reading helps to develop an imagination, as well as other valuable skills. i can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would want to believe that learning to read at a young age could be bad.

And sorry, reading shapes thinking...it doesn't necessarily help you to develop an imagination. Playing helps develop an imagination though...so does making art and music...anything requiring creativity develops imagination. Reading does no such thing.
