annalog no more/ true?
I read somewhere on the net that as of Dec.31, 06......annalog TVs, which is what most folks have at the moment, would no longer work. We have to buy HD TVs and hook up to a sattelite digital service, like Direct TV.

Anyway I have mentioned this to several people and they look at me as if Iīm wearing a straight jacket.

Well......is it a fact or not. I have e-mailed some of the major networks and they either donīt answer, or just donīt have any information?

I really would like to know the facts, and persue getting the information into the mainstream news. I think itīs awful to wait til the last moment and spring it on folks that have JUST bought an obsolete TV.

Where did you hear this?

I can see it happening, but not for another 25-30 years.

Re: annalog no more/ true?
Gold, I wish I could remember.....I read it, either here....someone posted it or on another message forum. There was a lot of discussion about some states already making plans of safe ways to dispose of the old TVs because of the lead content. I thought from all the talk it was a fact and wanted it to get out to the masses. If it was a hoax, it was a very good one. Everyone that was participating in the discussion seemed to take it as reliable info.

Re: annalog no more/ true?
It wouldnīt make sense for them to do that though.

Satellite coverage isnīt available everywhere, and in some cases itīs not viable.

Besides, they already got all the cable running, I canīt see the companies taking that lying down.

Itīs on alright.
Analog TV will be gone for ever here in N Europe by the year 2008, they say.
That means no more hockey...cry
Guess Iīll have to get filthy rich and buy myself the first major league team our beloved hometown has ever seen.
Letīs see, thatīs three years from now...yup, Saku Koivu will be just the right age for a transfer.

Go to www.turnoffyourtv.com and read the part about digital. It says with the help of the government, the annalog signal we have used for 60 years will permanently be turned off Dec.31, 06.
Well if there is no signal.....how can the annalog tv work?

Re: annalog no more/ true?
That is correct. The analog signal will be turned off. To continue to use an analog TV will require you to purchase an analog to digital converter.

OOOHHHHHHHH........OK......I was confused about that........but even so......how many people can afford? Are they expensive? I think a lot of people are going to just unplug.......

It might limit us to one TV, depending on the expense. Oh well, in any case......I still think the general population should know now not later.

Should be able to get one for under $20.00.

Hell, they sell DVD players for $19.99 at Walmart.

Re: annalog no more/ true?
It just seems like we donīt have a choice. If you keep the old Tv....you have to buy a converter. If you buy new TV.....HD....expensive and then have to buy service to cable or whatever. Since Iīm already on Direct TV, I guess the converter would be the cheapest way to go....still donīt really know the price. Oh well guess Iīll go kicking and screaming into the new techno world.....or just turn it off. I think my husband would cease to exist. He is addicted to TV. Between sports, poker, and his favorite Sci-Fi shows......he canīt go without them for more than a few hours.
