The pet breeding industry and puppy mills continue to thrive - they have all these animal shelters who are doing away with so many animals people are constantly going to pet stores to buy their pets instead of taking in a free strays from off the streets, since there are no stray pets running in the streets, they've been picked up and killed, thus a bonanza for the pet industry which can continue to breed more puppies and kittens to replace the ones killed in animal shelters.
