***PIRATE BAY IS BACK - WITH A VIRUS***

can we get others to confirm this one?
my virus software isn't up to date, so i would rather not risk it.

obviously pirate bay is a virus now.. new owners probably tracking all IPs..

anyone know what this particular virus does?

The new owners are "Global Gaming Factory"... pretty shady.

I went to TPB, didn't see any virus warning or anything. I'm using KIS2010

it came up that it had been quarantined on my laptop as soon as i went to the page...could be a coincidence but i doubt it.

I checked the source and don't see anything (nor did I encounter it with KAV)

Only thing that I could see popping it up randomly was [link to clicktorrent.info]

Maybe it will cycle a trojan when serving ads...

Why would you go there when they warned you weeks ago that it was going to be shut down due to court order?

I too have encoutered these pdf trojan viruses. I have tried a couple differnet times and I ahve had it happen more than once. They also have a new isp, but I'm done with them now.

yes i've also got the pdf exploit virus from TPB on more than one occasion. Symantec Anti-virus does not detect it at all. Use avg now, still doesnt catch the virus but full scan will find it. Spybot and adaware also find it dureing scan but nothing seems to stop it before computer is infected. Oh well can't complain, after all have got so much quality music, movies and software through the site can't knock getting something nasty eventually

stop using adobe acrobat reader for pdfs and you will not be vulnerable once such a kittens hits you by accident.

there are other pdf readers around. Foxit for example.

The evil guys always target only what 99% of the users have installed. Therefore the combination of MS Windows,Adobe Reader,Flashplayer and Java runtime gives the hugest target.

These days you need to be up2date not only on the OS Level for protection, no you need to develop startegies, patch all your Browser-plugins to the latest version ( newest Firefox 3.5.3 warns you if flash is outdated )

Your machines can nowadays be infected by simply watching a video or viewing a pdf. It's reality, so take caution.

Side-effect : that slow-bloated-packed with nonsense extra-crap acroreader takes ages on some pcs to load and show a simple pdf. Most alternative viewers pop up instantly and do just what the sowftware has to do : show a pdf..

use opera + agnitum+kaspersky +drive crypt
and of course or latest windows (like wind7 64bit) or latest .nix

I just went to Pirate bay, typed in the name of a movie and as soon as I clicked search my NOD32 alerted me to a Trojan. This is a first for me. I didn't even get to the search results and it was already infecting my PC. NOD32 took care of it, quarantined and deleted it. Guess I won't be using Pirate Bay again.

I don't have a Windows machine handy right now to check, but does that extension indicate that you're running Internet Explorer 5? Released in 1999, obsoleted in 2001?

If so, I wouldn't worry about getting any virus from The Pirate Bay. You're probably infected with everything going already.

TPB is working just fine and dandy as always, completely virus free (although do always scan your torrent d/l's). Theres no getting rid of it :D

False positive no virus

Oh yeah I should add im running no script so their scripts don't work.

Ya I'm hesitant to believe that the virus scanners are detecting false positives.

My scanner goes haywire whenever I visit that site. It slows down my computer for like 10 seconds while all the scripts and crap are being scanned and blocked and what-not.

Well if you use Firefox with noscript you wont download the crappy ad cookies/viruses/trojans.

pdf virus? pdfs don't carry executable data, unless adobe has added bullshit to their file format.

The ads on piratebay have always been infected with viruses or browser hijacks. Not really piratebays fault, just the ones managing the advertisements for their site allowing these people be trusted ads.

It's been a pretty common event lately, see the nytimes ad attack.

I would consider it TPB's fault! If you know that you have malicious ads on your site then get rid of the ads with malicious code! If you visit their forums they are complete a-holes about it! I think everyone should blacklist TPB and see how long it lasts after that! I used to have this same problem with another site I frequented often and at least they had the common sense to address the issue! I know that NOD32 blocks this virus as I see it every time I visit TPB!
