***PIRATE BAY IS BACK - WITH A VIRUS*** | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855814 United States 01/02/2010 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ...thank god for Mcafee... Quoting: Pirate Bay Addict 855822...uninstall. Mcafee sucks. I have Win 7 with the new McAfee and they are CONSTANTLY updating the damn thing. Almost every day there's an update to the software. I'm not talking about virus definitions, I'm talking CODE. I started noticing in December that my system was slowing down, especially when browsing the internet. I couldn't figure out what it was, and ran all kinds of scanners, checks and speed tests. Nothing was detecting that McAfee was randomly spiking the CPU to 90% and bringing page loads to a crawl. I finally unistalled it and replaced it with the new Microsoft AV and now my system is back to its old self. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855849 United States 01/02/2010 10:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pirate Bay is full of viruses and key-loggers and has been for months. What I find annoying are the browser hijackers that redirect you to some site that auto-downloads flowers. Pirate Bay is a great resource, but with it comes a minefield of maleware that you have to navigate. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855849 United States 01/02/2010 11:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The ads on piratebay have always been infected with viruses or browser hijacks. Not really piratebays fault, just the ones managing the advertisements for their site allowing these people be trusted ads. Quoting: Beaver7336 845057It's been a pretty common event lately, see the nytimes ad attack. I would consider it TPB's fault! If you know that you have malicious ads on your site then get rid of the ads with malicious code! If you visit their forums they are complete a-holes about it! I think everyone should blacklist TPB and see how long it lasts after that! I used to have this same problem with another site I frequented often and at least they had the common sense to address the issue! I know that NOD32 blocks this virus as I see it every time I visit TPB! I agree. Most of the viruses, flowers, key-loggers, and browser hijackers are from the ads, and TPB does nothing to protect visitor's from them. One thing is certain, TPB makes a crap-load of money from the maleware infected ads. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855518 Canada 01/02/2010 11:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | False positive no virus Quoting: Anonymous Coward 769898Oh yeah I should add im running no script so their scripts don't work. That's pretty good protection. That an adblocker makes the net a much better place. I use VMWARE and take snapshots of a clean virtual machine, and then every other week or so or if anything unusual is happening, I just restore the snapshot. For one thing its a virtual machine, so its completely disposable, and nothing can hurt your real machine, the host machine, because you don't need to run any risky programs on your host machine and if you do well, then you takes yours chances. Its like restoring a restore point. And as far as WIndoze 7, yeah thats what shills want you to do. I went to install Dot net 3 and MSOFT said Oh sorry, I can't install Dot Net 3 unless you install BITS. You know the backdoor system for stealing all your information and sending your thumbnails to the pentagon. Also in Windoze 7 you get new protocols! You need them because they are your new bend over protocols that you didn't think you need. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855518 Canada 01/02/2010 11:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey want to know a secret? There is a torrent search engine called Torrentz, and it will find things on Pirate Bay, the right page where the torrent is, better, than Pirate Bay's own search engine. You do a search on Pirate Bay, it finds nothing on that topic, repeat the search at Torrentz, and voila, there is a page from Pirate Bay. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 855518 Canada 01/03/2010 01:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah it looks like their tracker is now offline. They got sentenced to a year in jail. The site is still up, and they probably aren't going to jail, but they are now suggesting people use trackerless torrents. Magnetic links or something. You see the problem is, that TPTB are deluding themselves into believing that they could some how, use Pirate Bay to corner the torrent market, then, manipulate Pirate Bay, and manipulate the downloading thing. Well 5 years and 500 million dollars later and they are still nowhere. There are lots and lots and lots of other sites, other trackers, and no one is going to stop downloading, in fact, it is growing daily. Yes Pirate Bay is cool in that they did have a good reputation for good links and easy downloads but the net works like this. As long as you have something good, people will go there. The minute it is not good, they will not go there. They will go somewhere else. So any attempts to steer the public using these sorts of tactics, always always ends up in people becoming more resourceful and making better tools to do what they want. Simply because necessity is the mother of invention. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855518 Canada 01/03/2010 01:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In the off chance you don't know how the system works. 1) get the free VMWARE browser appliance and nothing can hurt your system. 2) Use Torrentz search engine but never buy into the sign up deals with any returned links just try a different site listed there. If your search turns up nothing, don't for a minute think there is nothing out there. Case in point, I wanted to get the Sound of Music in 790p Torrentz turns up nothing, so I try well what about 1080p That's 11 gig but its high def. Bingo, there's a link, but when I look at Torrent hound where it returned the link, at their related links at the bottom? Sound of Music 790p, 50 seeders 90 leechers. So there ya go. It works like that. And it takes a bit of experience to learn how to not waste your time downloading fake links. But you will get what you want if you just search around. And if worse comes to worse? Google search with the words torrent and your selection. You will get a starting point of some kind. Everything ever made is probably out there somewhere. And for now, you will need to search for a current list of trackers. If you have a link but no seeders? Oh no, that means you have to add more trackers. That takes almost a minute. Then you will see hey guess what? That link you thought was dead? Is alive and well somewhere else. We have the high ground. You know that they won't win. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 855518 Canada 01/03/2010 02:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now the question is, can you still trust them? The thing is if you have VMWARE browser appliance no one can hurt you. Use the outgoing encryption option with your torrent downloading software. If not, your ISP will know you are downloading and may terminate your connection. They now have automatic software installed, since the government makes them, that looks at your packets and will terminate your connection, if you do not use encryption. As an example Utorrent is the best software for downloading, but it comes with that option not checked off. So you have to go in to preferences and check that or your ISP will simply terminate your connection automatically. (Usually) Here is the tracker list. Usually some are good some are not so good, but it all helps to find seeders. [link to thepiratebay.org] I think one or more of Pirate Bays trackers is still up and running. tpb something. |
RobiD User ID: 857278 Australia 01/04/2010 07:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to TPB as I have always done and without even downloading anything, I started to get the Windows Security Alert warning and it was done and dusted. My laptop was infected. It stopped AVG, prevented me from running any flowers software or doing online scans. It progressively got worst so I reformatted out of frustration. I couldn't beleive that TPB could do this so I blamed everyone else in my house for using my computer. Doh! I went back to TPB and low and behold, off we went again. Same virus/kittens/flowers took over my laptop and I reformated again. I will NEVER return to the Pirate Bay. Let all others be warned. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 769898My scanner goes haywire whenever I visit that site. It slows down my computer for like 10 seconds while all the scripts and crap are being scanned and blocked and what-not. Well if you use Firefox with noscript you wont download the crappy ad cookies/viruses/trojans. Nod 32 detects this exploit i get window from Foxit & Adobe PDF Reader want to opoen to read PDF also TPB website is plagued by the System Scannner rogue AV pop up Ctrl>Alt> Delete logoff restart to get rid of that never close by clicking on the "X" close window as yo probably already know. . |

I think the government is putting them on there to control people from using pirate bay...Im so sad that I wont be using it any more but there are tons of other torrent sites out there. Just some good help...if you notice something going weird, one of the programs popped up on my task managers processes...Once I stopped the process it was fine...but only that once. I never thought to do it previously...good luck..also facebook has had a vicious one as well watch out..good luck |

It was a java based virus. This is where it goes: I tried testing the link and sure enough it starts downloading the java applet, which NOD 32 catches as a variant of an OSX exploit.Smid.B Trojan [link to zerengot.com] Does this mean that this is a Mac Virus???? |

GO to a Private tracker, some really good ones about, always top speed. Only reason I occasionally use Demonoid is for Rare stuff, everything else I can get from Private trackers.
