TPB has that "antivirus 2010" virus, got it without downloading anything. had to restore my laptop to new :4:.

If you have not had browser-hijacking, flowers, and random disconnect issues, then you have not been using Pirate Bay

TPB is a cesspool of malicious attacks on your computer. While it is a nice place to download movies, games, and software, you have to navigate a _tr.oj.an/_vir.us/_flowers minefield to get what you want.

It's the flash advertisement. There's a major vulnerability in flash (use the flashblock addon in firefox to avoid unwanted flash running)

The funny thing is how retarded the infection off it is. It dumps so much crap on you that windows just cracks, if you don't have a virus program. And if you do it doesn't do anything. So it won't get you infected in secret.

My thought is that this is actually an attempt at destroying the piratebay through less than legal means, by the media corporations who totally failed to get it shut down every time they tried.

100% confirmed Pirate Bay is serving up ads which are ifected machines. Most likely the ads are on rotation so those testing and reporting it clean should refresh the page a few times.

I searched for a torrent and like others I did not click to download the torrent - just made a search. I was infected by the XP Antivirus spoof bullshit. I could not open any exe's and repeated pops up reported that I had no vrus protection and firewall was switched off.

I use Avira vrus protection, I was tired at the time and I think a shield appeared on the task bar (identical to the genuine xp shield) aying my virus protection was switched off. I think clicking this started the infection.

It's a real fucker to remove, some files i could only remove by putting my drive into a 2nd pc to remove. Otherwise Malbytes, Super Anti-flowers, Spybot and HJT revoved the rest.

I'll never use TPB again!

That's too bad - a little registry tweak will re-enable the formerly un-responsive scanner programs & then they can do their job.

Pirate Bay and ISOhunt have both been hit by trojans streamed through ad servers. The one at Pirate Bay takes advantage of security holes in both Acrobat and Java to install a fake Antivirus program that warns you about your computer being infected when it itself is the main infection.

While ISOhunt has done a good job containing the problem and refusing ads from the ad servers involved, PirateBay just seems to be getting worse and worse.

If you've been infected, don't panic. This infection seems principally to be trying to scare you. (I do wonder if it's a corporate anitpiracy measure. And who can blame the corporations - they are losing billions of dollars to P2P networks.)

You can usually remove it with the latest versions of kittensbytes antikittens and spybot search and destroy. Both of these are free. Trust the folks at bleeping computer and similar security sites. Trust tools like HijackThis, combofix, etc. Stay calm, educate yourself.

But be careful - the next round of kittens could be much worse. (And pay for things you love, or they may not survive....)

Pirate bay is virus now, kittens of some kine of shitty thing, enough to irritate you. My NOD 32 cought it... My restore points were deleted & desktop was hijaked. I had to restore in safe mode.. End of Pirate Era !!!

I just spent 2hours cleaning up my computer after just visiting PB, so yes, I caught it and it definitely exists. The site is somehow infected and it disables your av setup, so you must've gotten lucky. I only respond to you so you will be careful

I also got a virus last week after being on TPB. Took me about 3 hours to clean it all up but my PC is working fine now. I have used it for over 3 years now and have never had a problem. Now I will use extreme caution on any torrent site.

I definitely got a virus from TPB. If anyone is intrested speed.cd has opened up registrations for a while no invitation needed. Unless you can get an invite to Demonoid, speed is the best torrent site around right now. I hope TPB can get it self together.

brolocker.a, fakespypro,and alureon.h were found, one of which ate 2 copys of combofix and kittyfix right after it crashed mse and restarted lol

Pirate Bay still has its occasional virus. I have had it 3 times now. The first time I had been using the site for years, then BAM virus. After I figured out where it came from, I had a simple solution not to get it again. Turn off scripts. Real easy. I seen on here another user does this too. Well, the other two times. I was a dumbass and forgot to turn them off to navigate the site. This last "infection" I had it gone in under 30min. Go to safemode, restore to the last point, use hijackthis to clean up the scraps.

However, I like the idea of making a VMware system to download. I have been using it to run linux on my windows machine, never occurred to me to use it to download. Thanks for the idea.

I like linux, but sometimes you need windows for certain things. Its life......

I just went to Pirate Bay wondering if it was still down and got a java message, I clicked cancel, but it put the virus payload on my computer. It is a bogus antivirus software that messes everything up saying it is infected (can't even run task manager).

To fix it:

Boot Windows into safe mode, run msconfig, and uncheck all the applications that say Unknown. After looking at the file path from msconfig, make sure to delete it as well. No need to format if you do what I did. Hope this helps; the pirate bay sucks ass.

MS Essentials also picked up a threat when I went to TPB. It was contained and removed, but nevertheless, I don't think the threat is BS.

This is why I'll never touch Windows again - you couldn't even pay me enough. Is it really that hard to use a Linux box? Honestly, Ubuntu, Debian, OpenSUSE, Arch, Mint, Puppy, etc, etc.

I haven't had a virus in years. It's great. I don't even need a firewall or antivirus program - I just do not get them.

well you shouldn't go or trust any of those sites, as anything you download from there could be a virus , some of the most advanced viruses attack the partition so even if you think you can avoid the virus by having two independent drives then think again since it can jump any barriers
