It is my understanding that what the Bible refers to as "the sons of GOD" were angels. Probably the angels that were cast out of Heaven with Satan. I can't say this to be fact, as I am not a Bible scholar. JMO

When a created being is referred to as a son of God, it's a description of their status as created..these beings which were spiritual became physically involved and physically created physical beings.
But when Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and God entered the world as the SON, this event was all spiritual- there was nothing physical involved. Mary is a type and shadow of the true church and the Holy Spirit looks also overshadow the church to spiritually {not physically) create the sons of GOD. These new spiritual creations in the flesh as Jesus did..they walk empowered as Jesus did, but the first-born always remains pre-emminent.
Jesus reverses the works of the fallen angels. Through Him, that which is physical becomes spiritual.
