That's not how it was interpreted by Emperor Constantine and the Kings and Popes who followed him and forced conversion to Christianity by the sword.
Those words were never said by any holy man. It's noble of you to try and put the best face on it, much better than using it as an excuse to wipe out any who refuse to believe in Christianity. But those words, that would never be uttered by any truly holy man, were obviously inserted into the Bible by the compilers of the Bible and the founders of the Christian religion, for the express purpose of giving good reason to kill the unbelievers.
