Yeah, I have a friend - a close friend in fact - who is a dentist. He had built up a very successful and large dental practice in a major metro area and had about 10 other dentist and three hygenists working for him full time. They did so much crown and bridge work that they even invested in their own lab and lab techs to make their prosthesis. He had invested years and millions and now it was time to reap the benefits of his hard work.

Then he got talked into trying meth and more specifically to trying sex on meth. Of course it made him feel like superman, and he was able to leap over the normal physical blocks of middle age in the bedroom. He was screwing like he was 20 again, going at it all night long and still getting up and going to work the next day. He became Mr. Party Boy. He learned quickly how to cook up the stuff in his own private lab which was in a vacant portion of his own building. He paid off the doorman and the super and a few thousand to each of them every month and he was secure. Buddies of his sold the stuff at the bars and clubs and pretty soon his little illegal lab was bringing in more cash than he made at his dental practice. In six months he made an extra couple of million dollars, hired a doc to replace himself so the patients would think he was on a sabbatical, and sewed what remained of his wildest oats. His weight dropped sixty pounds in four months. When a couple of his own teeth were lost, he simply had his staff make a bridge or two for him quickly. And he was flying high.

Until one day he realized that he'd burned thru almost three million dollars in that few months of playing day and night. The bank filed a foreclosure notice on his apartment because he'd neglected to make his mortgage payments. And his life spun out of control. Finally a few of us got together and forced him into treatment at Promises in Malibu. He was there for six months. After the first two months he signed himself out and got arrested in a week for trying to rob a liquor store with some junkie friend of his! Fortunately he had no criminal record and the DA didn't file the charges but it did serve to get him back to treatment. Then he got serious about getting sober.

While trying to deal with the past and his drug use, he found out he was HIV positive. Here he was 45 years old, in an age when everyone knows about safe sex and no one should be getting infected. Yet he did get it! He finally recovered from the year of meth financially. He will never recover his health however. He dipped into his savings and retirement to pay off the debts and is now trying to rebuild both. His practice survived and most of the patients do not know what really happened. But here's a man at now nearly 50 who was seduced by the lure of this drug and what it does to the libido and drives. He told me that while on this stuff he could get an erection, literally screw different people all night long and never go soft of get tired! He felt like super man coupled with super stud. Yet the price he's paid will probably be, in a few years or more, his Very Life.

This guy was educated, successful, a professional and medically knowledgable. Yet it got him. If it can do that - get it's nefarious hooks into him - what must it be like for some 18 or 20 year old who suddenly feels all their insecurities melting away as they become the sex machine they have long dreamed and wished in their fantasies they could be? Addictive? I would say so. In ways we can only barely understand...
