That's funny because I have in my pantry a container of organic ground turmeric I bought at whole foods and a bottle I bought from the grocery store before that.

It is a very common spice.

Re: I need to find Turmeric Root
You can get Turmeric Root extract in pill form at GNC and even WalMart. That's what I do.

Now, If you want WHOLE turmeric root, like with the DIRT still on it as if you just dug it out of your own garden? I have not a clue.

In the capsule form, it also usually comes with pepper because it has been found that taking turmeric with black pepper enhances it's therapeutic effects by like 1000x.

There is no point in buying a whole root anyway. "Turmeric" is the ground root and it has a long shelf life.

Re: I need to find Turmeric Root
Are you trying to grow it, or do you just want to use it medicinally? If growing, I've ordered from here as part of their medicinal garden:

I found it very hard to propogate, though. It is very sensitive to changes in humidity. Also, try searching for "goldenseal" rather than tumeric at online garden supply locations - same thing.

If medicinally, there's an Ayurvedic product called "Vicco Tumeric" that uses a sandalwood oil base. Best topical product I've ever used, and can easily be found online.

Good luck!

1. Turmeric and goldenseal are NOT the same thing. Turmeric is ultra cheap when you buy it in bulk, and goldenseal is ultra expensive. Goldenseal has only medicinal applications, it is not used as a culinary spice like turmeric.

2. Not sure what that Vicco Turmeric stuff is, but if it has real sandalwood essential oil, it must be very expensive. Also you might think twice about buying products made from the over exploited and endangered sandalwood tree.

To the OP: I get ground turmeric in bulk from San Francisco Herb Co.

It is really reasonable, like only a few dollars a pound. That company is great to do business with, they have quality products and their service is excellent.

Re: I need to find Turmeric Root
I am looking for the root root like in the ground.

I am making a anti-imflamatory green tea

But I will probably have to buy it in capsule form and use the powder.

Thanks again!
