Sorry..lol
You should try it some time. You can do it almost anywhere.
I experimented with container gardening with OUTSTANDING results. I will do much more of this next year. It is much easier to stay on top of weeds/grasses too. Which has been a pain in the ass because of rain. |

grew carrots, 2 kinds of tomatoes, okra, Buttercrunch romaine lettuce, and cherry radishes.
Oddly, I didn't use anything but compost and water and the stuff just exploded.
Technically, it could be considered organic. Still eating stuff that came out of it. |

Dear Laxy,
Container gardening is so easy the Laxiest Gitt could do it with the most minimum of effort.
You rig the container with a liner stones and a feed tube and it holds water far longer than a day. Some of my peppers I have only added water to TWICE all summer! They are blowing up! |

I think I'm going to try the tire stack this winter, except I will use cinder blocks instead, because I have big stack of those already, and no tires. To visualize the coming apocalypse, imagine, if you will, Oprah & Rosie O'Donnell wrestling for the last rib at an all-you can-eat Bar-B-Q... |

My plants are higher than the chainlink fence and the hay mounds are about 4' high with clean potatoes everywhere - it's unreal how great they've grown and the mulch wards off the potatoe beetles - |

Doesn't it taste good?
If everyone grew a little of everything when possible this country could experience an organic culinary renaissance! |

Give me some rice/potatoes and a few spices, and I'm pretty much OK.
Also do tons of canning, about 800 to 1000 jars per year.
These days real busy - today...tuna, tomatoes, and purple beans.
Tomorrow - smoked salmon and corn.
Something intrinsicaly satisfying about this stuff - not to mention that it tastes better, and is not loaded with sugar, salt, msg, etc. |

Down here in Florida, winter is our best growing season for a lot of vegetables. I'll plant several types of lettuce and greens, red potatoes, carrots, green beans, green peas, strawberries, going to try some beets this year...haven't decided what else yet... I have 12 rows (about 25' in length) - weight, I haven't got a clue until harvest - towards the end of October I'm thinking -
I planted my rows exactly as my uncle told me with the hopes of 1000 potatoes (never planted potatoes before) - he told me to order 20 gunny sacks from Lehmans - he said, "you will need them" - lol
I think he's right - from what I've seen when I careful pull the hay back, I'm going to use all 20 + I've been having family and friends save their 10 and 20 pound plastic potatoe sacks from the grocery store...
I have more potatoes than you would imagine... The blood meal helps the plant and roots mature, and the bone meal feeds the tubers - they're great big potatoes also (not small tiny ones) - I got 4 kinds planted - the Yukon Gold are my favorite so far -
I'll just till the hay under in the fall to amend the soil...
Anybody need some spuds???
~LOL~ |

We have a good fall planting season here in TN! You can get some crops in now before frost...some like swiss chard will resist early frost too. Pretty much anything that is early-season like peas and lettuces can be grown in the fall!
