The DOL uses the Birth/Death ratio to skew it down and then estimates that hundreds of thousands found new jobs that simply do not exist in this Depression. The real number of Unemployed is over Thirty Million. Quoting: Fritz Passenheim 758568This depression? Don't make me laugh. Economic doom mongers are so desperate for doom that now they are making up depressions. If you lived through the great depression you would know what a depression really is. This is a cake walk. There are no bread lines. Malls and restaurants are full. |

The food lines are not taken care of by food stamps> I'm sure Fritz meant "The food lines are NOW taken care of by food stamps. Frightenly correct..if you want a more truthful estimate of the unemployed, look at the number of food stamp recipients. |

I married in '82 and remember people telling me that it was going to be tough because of unemployment, but it was nowhere even close to this bad. Plus many of those food lines in the 30's depression are not there because people are getting their food through food stamps. I read the other day that the average person get over $150/month for food on that program! WOW! No wonder so many American are getting fatter. I guess they're storing up for a rainy day or something. |

We did not have FOOD STAMPS fool during the Great Depression and Million upon Millions of people are on Food Stamps and Section 8 housing programs. So now knowing this get the OFFICIAL Number on Food Stamps put them in line an say multiply 2 feet for each person in line and see how far the line goes. Mickeyblue User ID: 330969 United States 09/04/2009 02:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It wasn't this bad during the 80s, not even the slightest. What is going to make this one different than ANY previously, is the banks got their banking bill passed in 2005 and they got their bankruptcy bill passed. What this does is wherein it took two years to rehabilitate a persons finances to go back into the market to purchase a home it now takes 5 years. If thousands or millions of people whose credit is systematically being destroyed cannot return to participating in the various markets the economy does not move forward as it is a totally consumer driven economy, planned that way and there will be no steam to build any momentum. People who have good credit, who have credit lines are seeing their maximum amounts being reduced on their credit lines or eliminated all together and they are seeing reductions in their credit on credit cards, all of this without having done anything to merit this. What this does now is whatever they show on balances makes their balances seem proportionally disproportionate and that lowers their credit score. Most good loans today require at minimum a 720 and with that they want a substantial down payment. For those loans with less than 20% down there is the requirement of MMI and sales are falling out due to the insurers of the MMI turning down loans. Tthe malls, those that were built over the past few years or are in various stages of completion are empty. their loans are not 30 year loans but as little as 8 year loans and they will not ualify for refinancing so you have yet to see the fallout on that score and we still have the credit card issues and the quadrilllion dollar derivatives market. This is one gigantic mess out of which it will take years to emerge according to how I see it and still "they" over mainstream news are telling you how good it is and how we have turned the corner on this. |
