Still usable, of course and saleable if you don't want them.
You are now happy as hell because you won't have to live the rest of your Life in the Wild or dead …;^) OR, toiling in your garden for basic food for the rest of your Life.. You can enjoy the amazing benefit of just going to the local market to just “buy” your food already packaged and controlled against rot or inferior quality! Wow! Hey, you can still GO to a movie and have your popcorn! You can even continue to buy gasoline for your scooter or car. Wow, I never realized I had it so good!
Conclusion.
If you don't prepare ahead of time, you won't be ready in the best way possible. Now you are stuck where you are with a few cans of food and surrounded by the dead and dying. Oh sure, you ran to the top of the closest hill and now you are rubbing shoulders with God knows who?

UPDATE. November 3rd 2009 ....
I talked to a very nice gentleman last night at the local hot tub, Bill. He's 66 years old.
The kind of guy he is: He setup and ran a school for underprivileged and abandoned kids in the 70'ies.
I told him about PX last year, and we've been having the odd conversation about the consequences of 200 to 300 foot tsunami washing over our town on the West Coast of Canada.
He lives on an Island off the West Coast that has an 1,100 foot high area. His property is low, so we talked about setting up a survival camp near the top of the Island, as he has intelligent practical land-owner friends that have land high up.
Last night he says: "Why not prepare anyways? If it's not true you can always use the food."
Exactly, I said that just the right attitude: Be ready, observe and wait; at the first major sign (3 days of darkness, being one of them) ACT!
Amateurs do not have telescopes and the sophistication needed to spot this planet. This was spotted by that which is known as IRIS. This appears to be an infrared telescope capable of reading energies of near absolute zero. It is capable of reading this planet because it is in a frozen state of near absolute zero. It is colder that other energies around, and it is almost as large as Jupiter, and was first spotted outside of the orbit of Pluto, in the direction of Orion, moving toward the solar system

Well seeing as i'm a 'stupid person' and a 'dick' i will make a deal with you. Seeing as your going to run to hills you won't be needing all your stuff any more so let me sell it on Ebay (including your house), and put all that money into a bank account that can't be touched until 2013. Also, IRAS (not IRIS) spotted no such thing. Here is a paper on the subject by the original IRAS researcher...

Seriously though, we have given this all the respect a doom event of this magnitute deserves. But that was months ago, years ago for alot of us. Most of us have done hours if not days of research on the subject. But there's nothing there. It sounds cool, and as I have said before, it is the untimate doom event, but it's simply not true.
You are much better off preparing for Swine flu quaranties or economic doom.

IT is a pipedream and nothing more, it would be cool if it were true and it passed us without the doom - humanity could learn a lot from such an encounter
For some time now i have the feeling that we will see some massive changes soon. I have this feeling for some time now and i have some feeling that something major is about to occur. I expect an event soon and i think that in due time will even some more changes that will be devestating.
It is not only important to be ready for the pole shift, but also to be ready for these changes. As many areas will be affected, especialy coastal areas.
