General designation is as follows:

o Genetically engineered produce also has a five-digit number on the label and begins with an 8. Again, the number on genetically altered bananas would be 84011.

GE Labeling
In 1992, the FDA declared that biotech foods were the same as conventional foods – because the biotech companies said so. The number 8 was then instituted since the produce industry thought consumers would prefer genetically modified food moreso than conventionally grown food. It did not take long for them to find out differently. Although the number 8 designation can still be found, it is rare. The biotech industry is also fighting any sort of labeling for their inventions – now that they know consumers really do not want them. As it stands now, Hawaiian papaya is about the only food you will find that has the number 8 in front of it.

Unless the label specifically states “certified organic”, it is a safe bet that any food containing corn, soy, and cottonseed oils has a GE origin. These processed foods will not have the genetically engineered PLU code that would alert the consumer. In addition, manufacturers of GE products are not subjected to any special review, approval, or labeling. The organic producer is, however. Ironic, isn’t it – something that is grown naturally requires more scrutiny than does something containing any number of harmful substances?

Organic Labeling

Before a product can be labeled organic, stringent guidelines must be followed. Producers must have had their farms inspected and be given permission to use the “certified organic” label on their produce. Organic farmers try their best to make sure their seed has not been contaminated through cross-pollination and go to their own great expense to do so. The onus of a pure product is placed squarely on the shoulders of the organic grower, and his efforts should be acknowledged and supported."


One needs to UNDERSTAND that genetic selection is very natural and has been used for ages to develop the best fruits and vegetables. However, genetic engineeringand genetic selection are not the same thing. In fact, engineering involves forcing a foreign gene or more into another halotype-this is beyond dangerous IMHO

This is taking it to the molecular or atomic characteristics and will lead to genetic contamination that have been unseen up to now and they will become much more full blown as the "substantially equivalent" seed I know as Frankenfoods contaminates all seed.

Monsatan and others like them have pursued owning ALL SEED. They have been actively buying up ALL seed companies they could, even heirloom-as much as possible and overall actually own MOST OF THEM. It is to make heirloom varieties more illegal as they have done so in Europe. They are also actively trying to patent all seeds not yet patented EVEN IF THEY DID NOT DEVELOP THEM-if they bring a patent action first-even if it were developed by your great, great, great grandfather-if you have failed to patent a seed, a tree, a spore, a plant, etc they will and you will pay them heavily to use said seed if "they" allow it.

So far looking at their history-I would suggest they will take all community farmers to court once their foul seed has contaminated their fields-as they have done all along.

It appears the rulings so far make monsatan god-IOW

regardless of natural pollination from a bee, butterfly, or bat, or even an animal that has consumed seeds of monsatan-and drops them on a farmers property-and it spreads-tough luck for the farmer or the family farm-monsatan will try and take it and so far the courts seem to be in bed with the corporations.

So if one fails to protect their right to eat or grow what they choose-they will suffer the consequences


Sorrowfully, most are ill prepared and do not think this deeply about what they take in or even what they speak out-no surprise so many are sickly-

The increasingly fractious relationship between public sector researchers and the biotech seed industry has come into the spotlight in recent months. In July, several leading seed companies met with a group of entomologists, who earlier in the year had lodged a public complaint with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over restricted access to materials. In a letter to the EPA, the 26 public sector scientists complained that crop developers are curbing their rights to study commercial biotech crops. "No truly independent research can be legally conducted on many critical questions involving these crops [because of company-imposed restrictions]," they wrote.

In turn, the seed companies have expressed surprise at the outcry, claiming the issue is being overblown. And even though the July meeting, organized by the American Seed Trade Association in Alexandria, Virginia, did result in the writing of a set of principles for carrying out this research, the seed companies are under no compunction to follow them. I have written a number of previous notes on the danger of the herbicide ,glufosinate, used with GM and normal crops and false claims by officials of EU , US and Canada that the herbicide has no harmful side effects. The previous evidence showed that pregnant females fed food containing the herbicide gave birth to children with birth defects both traditional and defects in behavior and learning. Learning defects were also experienced by young children exposed to the herbicide. Recent studies of humans exposed to pesticides showed that fathers exposed to glufosinate gave birth to children with birth defects while most other pesticides did not produce that impact (Garcia,A.,Benavides,F.,Fletcher,T. and Orts,E. "Paternal exposure to pesticides and congenital malformations" Scand J Work Environ Health 24, 473-80,1998).

The glufosinate birth defects suggest that the large chemical companies have undo influence over government bureaucrats . Such bureaucrats turn their backs on clear evidence of danger from pesticides and promote dangerous genetic engineering. We must alert the public and insure that the dangers are made public.

Sometimes the manufacturer will listen to consumer requests as is happening all over Europe.

Sometimes they will claim that there are no non-genetically-manipulated sources for the ingredients they use.

That is rarely the case as manufacturers all over Europe and Asia are removing gentically-manipulated ingredients from their products (Examples).

Other times, they will respond with statements which originated with the genetic manipulation industry. However, it will only take a few major manufacturers in the U.S. to switch to non-genetically-manipulated ingredients and the rest will follow in order to avoid losing market share. So, please be persistent!
