Hubble Telescope is Back: Fantastic New Images Released

"NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is back in action after its most recent upgrade, with a spectacular array of new images showing off the telescope's new capabilities."

"Hubble's new instruments, including the Wide Field Camera 3, a new super-sensitive spectrograph, were installed on the 19-year-old telescope by shuttle astronauts during a 13-day service mission in May. The mission, which was initially cancelled in 2004 due to safety concerns after the 2003 Columbia shuttle disaster, also revived two instruments — Hubble's main ACS and a versatile imaging spectrograph — that were never designed to be fixed in space."

Other more powerful telescopes are coming on line that can replace Hubble when it reaches the end of its lifespan.

Thats why there was such an outcry to fix the Hubble one last time... so it can continue to do science until these new telescopes are available.

Telescopes don't feed "starving children", parents feed "starving children". Also, if the "wonderful" u.n. would get off their collective butts, then maybe, this issue wouldn't be so hard to solve.
So, maybe you need to deal with the u.n., and question them, not the astronomers.

I find it very intriguing that the hubble can take pictures of galaxies and nebuli tens of thousands of light years away with such amazing detail, But there are no closeups of our neighboring galaxy OR pictures of other solar systems within our own galaxy.

I dont understand why.
This is common sense, you have this huge space telescope, take some closeups of neighboring solar systems, who gives a shit about distant nebulas and other galaxies.

I want them to find planet krypton

Re: Hubble is Back: Fantastic New Images Released!
"All That Is creates its reality as it goes along. Each world has its own impetus, yet all are ultimately connected. The true dimensions of a divine creativity would be unendurable for any one consciousness of whatever import, and so that splendor is infinitely dimensionalized (most intensely throughout), worlds spiraling outward with each ‘moment' of a cosmic breath; with the separation of worlds a necessity; and with individual and mass comprehension always growing at such a rate that All That Is multiplies itself at microseconds, building both pasts and futures and other time scales you do not recognize. Each is a reality in itself, with its own potentials, and with no individual consciousness, however minute, ever lost.

The Seth quote was from The Unknown Reality, which I am re-reading. I could not belp but add it here. Seems so appropriate. Glad you enjoyed. I love how he says, and I paraphrase, the space is a perception of events, how our senses interpret them, or something like that. It is all heavy but the beauty of it rings true, as these wonderful images.

It all has to do with angular resolution. Most deep space objects are HUGE and subtend angles of several arc-minutes or more...easily imaged. Whereas even planets within our own solar system are very small...only a few arc-seconds in diameter. It's even very difficult to image the disks of other stars, much less any planets around them.

Money wasted on nonsense like the Hubble could be spent providing education, technology and jobs, which in turn could pay living wages so parents could provide food for starving children

The second one is pretty weird. Those three galaxies are so close to each other?

You dont find galaxies so close to each other in space.
