Police evacuate area in northeast Toronto because of van with 'suspicious' substance

TORONTO - Police are evacuating an area near an east-end Toronto vehicle impound lot over concerns about a suspicious substance in a cube van.

Officers are going door to door in the industrial area (near Markham and Finch) asking people to leave.

They are also asking people to stay away from the area.

Hazardous materials experts are trying to determine if the vehicle contains explosive materials.

Police say they are also concerned about a large propane tank near the van.

The bomb squad is on its way to the scene.
