Taking a stand and putting her money where her mouth is, literally. If you're a BoA customer and this has happened to you, WHY AREN'T YOU DOING THE SAME THING? As a matter of fact... Providian Card upped my interest rate to 29.9% and after arguing with 3 different people they graciously lowered it to 27%! So I said Okay... and quit paying them over a year ago! I have fun with the bill collectors who try and intimidate me and just laugh. They don't even call anymore. |

hello User ID: 71715 Australia 09/16/2009 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Get another credit card at a lower rate and transfer the balance to this card. This way the bank doesn't get anymore money. Simply not paying will result in them coming after you in the courts and having debt collectors ringing day and night. Alternatively she should start selling some of her crap on ebay, pay off the card and simply start living in a way she can afford. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 496147This philosophy is great for going forward, but what about past debt? This credit (debt) crisis affects all those folks who were enticed a few years ago by too-easy credit and the constant bombardment of a spend-spend-spend message on boobtube commercial ads. I have friends who spent themselves into oblivion, now facing 30% usury interest rates on balances in accounts originally issued at 10% fixed. They'll never be able to pay them off at that rate! Just because the fine print on the card agreement says that the rate can be raised any time doesn't make it moral or right. |

Just because the fine print on the card agreement says that the rate can be raised any time doesn't make it moral or right. But if you are spending money that isn't yours that you can't afford then you are at the mercy of the person you owe the money too. If you pay off your balance then it is alright. But look at how they got that balance in the first place. Where those purchases "necessary" and critical. No if you are told you can spend 10,000 dollars do you need to spend 10,000 dollars? You should spend more than you can afford. They can change the terms because it is their money you spent. While it is terrible they raised the interest rate you should never be in a position where you can't afford to pay off that debt. And don't say I didnt' expect to lose my job.. there is not job that is safe anytime. If you buy a car with large payments, buy a house with large payments then you assume you will honour those payments. but credit cards are not "your money" it is someone elses money. A glorifed loan shark system. And you have to understand the loan shark is not in this to help you buy new shoes.. they are in this to make money. If you cannot handle a change of interest then be sure to never have the balance so high the change makes it impossible to pay. It is like the arms of those mortgages that are causing foreclosure.. don't assume in two years you can renegotiate a better rate when it resets.. it is the same people with the same short sighted view as those with credit cards and escalating interest rates. If you can't afford what you get into then seriously re-evaluate your needs over your wants. I know for every case there is a story but trust me most of these stories are cases of people who bought things they couldn't afford. If you can't afford a 8500.00 balance don't have one. If you can't afford a 5 bedroom house then don't buy one. You dont' need three bathrooms. I was raised in a house with one bathroom. Greed in the short term will always backfire in the long term. I do not mean to insult anyyone but I hold many credit cards but pay off my balance every month. Not because I am rich but because I know I cannot afford to pay loan sharks interest anytime even at 9.99% never mind 29.99% I may not be able to buy new shoes every month or spend frivously but it isn't my money to spend. Assume nothing and you will not the one holding the bag. I really am not nearly as interesting as I should be but I certainly will try to find interest in nearly everything I can be. self quote. |
