What I don't like about living down here is that there are so many trees. Whenever we get a lot of rain and the ground gets soggy, the trees start falling over, crushing houses, falling over the roads, onto cars. I had never imagined that seemingly healthy trees could just fall over when there's not a heavy wind blowing. Every year, we spend major bucks having ten or twelve removed, but they grow so fast down here we never seem to get caught up (considering our lot is three acres).

No moran its not normal this is a historic rain event.I have been here 38 yrs my mom 66 we have never seen anything like this before.Major hwys are being shut down.State of emergency.Peoples homes are completely under water neighborhoods are gone turned into raging rivers.They just closed all metro schools .

CNN had a story that kids had to go BACK to school since their homes flooded. That is suffering. Borrowing money from the teachers to buy salty snacks, and soda is only fun for a while.

Saying there are more children missing, there are reports of families who were trying to pick up children from day care or school who are now missing in their cars, there are children that have been reported as being stuck in trees with huge rivers of flood water raging around them.
Many regions have lost power, lost all water supplies - water is contaminated, sewers are not working and sewers flowing into flood waters,,, more are losing power by the thousands every hour ... this is a mass disaster on such a scale it has never seen in this area since Civil War days ... saying that even 9-11 cannot hardly function as phones are going out in some places = "landlines" out, communication problems, worst hit areas .. some have no power even in the rescue facilities, generators have been being flooded or washed away, and when people can get a call through, the rescuers cannot easily get from one area to another due to flooding is not slowing down and is so widespread"
