wtf is this true? and how has no other space agency found this before?

aah because nasa is a lying piece of pooo thats why and also about other things now you see that NASA is the lying agency and lied about almost everything, including smudging out images of the moon structures on the moon etc etc etc that mars does have water and has air and so on.

its now a fact

NASA is still going to smash that probe into a crater in the south pole of the moon on the 9th of October to search for evidence of water. Something tells me they are not looking for evidence of water, otherwise they would have found it looooong ago.

That crater is THE coldest place in our solar system.
 Quoting: Xenus 762820

Of course they are not looking for water, that's B.S.

If the Indians know there is water on the moon the NASA knows too, so what are they looking for ?

Do me a favour.

I saw the NASA press conf today and they hardly mentioned ISRO's role in this. They talked as if everything was found out by F**ng NASA. India sent their own space shuttle and carried 6 different equipment from various european countries and US for FREE. If NASA is so capable of doing it on their own why can't they do it before in their own launching machines when they are f***ng rich. I sense somekind of diplomacy and arm twisting from US here. Give the poor Indians some credit. They achieved something major on their first journey.

Re: India finds water on the Moon!!!!! Picture!Quote

If you had bothered to read the article you would see that it is (until we find something even colder). However they chose the crater first and then sent the probe out, which then measured the temperature ranges at different times and in different orbits around the moon.
[link to www.space.com]

""Diviner has recorded minimum daytime brightness temperatures in portions of these craters of less than -397 degrees Fahrenheit," said David Paige, Diviner's principal investigator and a UCLA professor of planetary science. "These super-cold brightness temperatures are, to our knowledge, among the lowest that have been measured anywhere in the solar system, including the surface of Pluto.""

The question we should be asking now is, why would NASA not have simply used the same instrument that was on board the Indian probe to find water? After all that is exactly what NASA is trying to achieve with their probe, isn't it....? Not to mention the instrument which detected water belongs to NASA. WTF?

"The M3, an imaging spectrometer, was designed to search for water by detecting the electromagnetic radiation given off by different minerals on and just below the surface of the Moon. Unlike previous lunar spectrometers, it was sensitive enough to detect the presence of small amounts of water.

M3 was one of two Nasa instruments among 11 pieces of equipment from around the world on Chandrayaan-1"

Guess you didn't read that bold part. It makes no sense that places in our solar system which are FARTHER from the sun wouldn't be colder than a crater on the moon. So again, it's not the coldest place in our solar system. It's just among the lowest that have been measured anywhere in the solar system
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 389464

I guess YOU didn't read my reply at all, or you're too stupid to comprehend what I wrote. Now read MY bolded part. So far the south pole of the moon with the 2 large craters is THE COLDEST PLACE WE HAVE MEASURED SO FAR IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM. Colder then pluto!

The funny part of this whole thing is NASA had these instruments for who knows how long, so it's VERY hard to believe that they did not know about this until now. I know yanks are not the smartest in the world, but seriously no one can be that stupid or grossly ignorant. Like I stated before, either NASA are really fucking stupid and have no clue or they knew all along and have alternate motives for doing their mission. If the evidence of water is in the rocks and dirt, HOW did NASA not know this before when they had shitloads of rocks, regolith (soil) and other samples to work with?!

If NASA employees had ever been to the Moon, they would know what is there ... which they don't.

[link to www.facebook.com]

There is at least one military base, a conservatory, a group of buildings with landscaping and statues on the front side.

On the backside there's a temple. NASA doesn't know about that either.

No way anybody's been there and walked around.

Exactly. For 40 years, NASA has been telling us that the Moon has no water, based on the lack of water in "moon rocks." Now, just when it's convenient to keep manned space exploration alive, NASA discovers that there's plenty of water all over the Moon:

[link to science.nasa.gov]
---
To put that into perspective, if you harvested one ton of the top layer of the Moon's surface, you could get as much as 32 ounces of water.

From the same article. NASA is apparently trying to become as secretive as the CIA:
---
Water molecules and hydroxyl previously were suspected in data from a Cassini flyby of the Moon in 1999, but the findings were not published until now.

Those "moon rocks" are amazingly flexible. They can be used to support any hypothesis you want!

[link to www.dailyrecord.co.uk]
---
Professor Larry Taylor, a member of the team from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, US, explained how scientists made a mistake when they identified traces of water in the Apollo moon rocks.

Most of the boxes containing the rocks had leaked, leading experts to suspect contamination.

"To some extent, we were fooled," said Prof Taylor. "Since the boxes leaked, we just assumed the water we found was from contamination with terrestrial air.

"The isotopes (versions of atoms) of oxygen that exist on the Moon are the same as those that exist on Earth, so it was difficult if not impossible to tell the difference between water from the Moon and water from Earth.

"Since the early soil samples only had trace amounts of water, it was easy to make the mistake of attributing it to contamination."

This was NASA's story about the "moon rocks" less than ten years ago. Totally different from its story today!

https://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/moon_rock_analysis_000522_MB_.html
---
If those objects were water-rich comets, as some have suspected, why didn't the water remain in the rocks?
...
"Compared with terrestrial samples, all lunar rocks are oddballs because they are so dry," Ryder said. "They contain no molecules of water, they're not oxidized and they contain no ferric iron..."
...
Most of the Apollo samples are at the lunar sample building at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, stored in dry nitrogen to keep them moisture-free.
...
They can only be touched with aluminum, stainless steel or teflon to avoid contamination. Even the rubber gloves you use have to be covered with teflon," he said.

Never A Straight Answer

Chandraan-1's photo of water on the surface is incontrovertible.

Applied natural [SEPIA] hues, the water jumps right out at you, neon blue.

[link to www.holyconservancy.org]

Why NASA doesn't or didn't know this is because NASA has never been there.

I wonder if they really know how far away the Moon is, from earth.

They certainly do NOT KNOW its correct size.

I'm surprised that not a single NASA fanboy in this forum has given his interpretation of NASA's total about-face on "moon rocks."

Until recently: NASA claims that their "moon rocks" have no water whatsoever, and that this is proof of both their lunar origin and the effectiveness of NASA's anti-contamination procedures.

Today: NASA claims that the "moon rocks" do indeed have water, and that this water was lightly regarded in the past because the samples were known to be contaminated by earth contact anyway.

Single quotes by individual geologists do not equate to "NASA says." In any case, water had been found in the Apollo moon rocks well before this announcement:

"A new analysis of moon rocks has revealed that the moon isn't as bone dry as researchers had thought, whetting the appetite of scientists who seek a deeper understanding of how Earth's natural satellite arose and evolved."
- [link to findarticles.com] (Article dated August 2, 2008)

Or if you want to go way back:

"Total hydrogen (as H2 gas and H2O) extracted from lunar soil is about 34 micromoles/gram."

Re: India finds water on the Moon!!!!! Picture!Quote

Three or four years ago I found my first NASA Moon photo that was covered with vegetation.

[link to www.abidemiracles.com]

And then I discovered the Copernicus Crater is either filled with water or filled with plants.

[link to www.abidemiracles.com]

And then ESA took a photo of the Glusko Crater, covered with vegetation.

[link to www.abidemiracles.com]

So, where does anybody GET that there's not plentiful water on the Moon? The ENTIRE AS08-12 SERIES is full of vegetation, taken in 1971.

How does NASA say, with a straight face, there's no water there?

I'm confused.

And you have no explanation for this changing of stories?

[link to dsc.discovery.com]
---
A new analysis of Apollo 15 moon rocks has for the first time uncovered water locked up inside.
...
The discovery also overturns 40 years of studies which had failed to find the water and which led to the conclusion, drawn by most planetary scientists, that moon rocks must be all dry.
---

From NASA itself:

[link to science.nasa.gov]
---
"For example," explains Dr. Marc Norman, a lunar geologist at the University of Tasmania, "lunar samples have almost no water trapped in their crystal structure, and common substances such as clay minerals that are ubiquitous on Earth are totally absent in Moon rocks."

"We've found particles of fresh glass in Moon rocks that were produced by explosive volcanic activity and by meteorite impacts over 3 billion years ago," added Norman. "The presence of water on Earth rapidly breaks down such volcanic glass in only a few million years. These rocks must have come from the Moon!"

Note that the second quote doesn't say "no water", it says "almost no water."

If you really want clarification, why don't you ask Dr. Taylor - the scientist who's saying that they assumed the rocks were contaminated - yourself?:

We know that.

Have you tried looking at the moon through a telescope yet?

That would confirm all of your suspicions, but instead of playing with photos and photoshop you would see all of these features for real, in real time, in real colour.

No need to 'adjust' anything until you see what you want to see.
No need to 'adjust' anything to meet pre-disposed ideas.

Just the REAL moon in REAL colour in REAL time.

Have you tried that yet?

No?

I wonder why?

In plain English please otherwise it sounds like a pretty lame excuse!

Especially given that you put soooo much faith in the guy that uses a telescope to film the moon and highlight all of the spacecraft and buildings there. You remember?
The videos which to have seen yourself believe them to be true and tell us all to look at them to see for ourselves!

ALL done through a telescope!
You manage to see things then third hand, why not using your own eyes?
