How To Survive a Nuclear Attack

I was the NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) NCO for my Unit.

Let me see what I can remember.

I had everyone put on their gas masks and gear and work for several hours.

Believe me, it really sucks. Most uncomfortable.

Ground Zero or close by: Incinerated

The Gamma wave is first. It travels at the speed of light, so there is no avoiding

this unless you are behind alot of concrete or several inches of lead.

It only lasts for a fraction of a second.

As soon as you see the flash, Hit the deck and stay there for 90 seconds.

This is too avoid the shockwave, which travels about 600 MPH from the center of

the blast and decreases rapidly.

After that you will want to avoid the Alpha and Beta particle radiation.


Which is the Fallout. (Dust, Dirt, and Debris falling from the sky).

The best thing to do, if you can, is get out of the area immediately.

Away from the Fallout cloud.

If you cannot do this, stay put indoors for 2 weeks.

Don't run your A/C or heat for a couple of days, and make sure it is not

pulling in outside air.

You probably will not have power anyway.

Do not use Tap water for anything.

Eat and drink from sealed containers only.

If you become contaminated, throw your clothes outside, sponge bathe with

bottled water and toss the sponge.
