FBI says imam Ahmad Afzali worked both sides and tipped off suspects BY Elizabeth Hays and Helen Kennedy DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Updated Monday, September 21st 2009, 3:40 PM The Queens imam arrested in the Denver terrorism probe is an FBI informant the feds say became a double agent - tipping suspects that they were in the government's crosshairs. Ahmad Afzali, 37, insisted he's been loyally helping the government root out extremists since 9/11. His lawyer, Ron Kuby, calls him a fall guy. "I think the FBI is angry that they blew this case, and they want to blame poor Imam Afzali for blowing the investigation," Kuby said. Afzali told the News just hours before he was arrested Saturday night for lying to the feds that "someone is trying to set me up." Read more: [link to www.nydailynews.com] |

WASHINGTON — A Colorado airport shuttle driver was indicted Thursday on federal charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction in a possible Al Qaeda-linked bomb plot in the United States. Najibullah Zazi, 24, faces charges of conspiring to use explosives against persons or property in the United States, the Justice Department said. Authorities believe he and others may have been plotting a copycat mass transit attack in New York City similar to those on subways in London and Madrid. ...But yet he was working for both sides.... did they know he was planning this all along .... did they just watch him go along with it....and then arrest him. How did he get the job at the airport...where there no police checks before he got employed........... ..this makes no sense............... Help! |

CONVICTED OF CONSPIRACY TO USE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION ON US SOIL WANTED TO BOMB THE NYC SUBWAY NOW ABOUT TO WALK FREE ?!??! [link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)] Judge Raymond Dearie told Zazi that the "government has no reservation" as to his mindset, but said, "You'll understand my healthy skepticism." Zazi and his two co-conspirators, Adis Medunjanin and Zarein Ahmedzay, rode the subway and developed plans to blow up backpack bombs near the busy Grand Central and Times Square stations in Manhattan. On Sept. 11, his rental car was towed for a parking violation, and was searched. A laptop in the car held notes on making bombs in his handwriting. Wary of discovery, Zazi threw away his bombmaking materials and flew back to Denver. He was arrested in Colorado on Sept. 19, and ultimately charged in the Eastern District of New York with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. |
