They got addicted
Yet he unwashed masses still think they are living in the golden age with all their cgi
Separates the audience from the film IMO
Quoting: Astral Goat CGI hit its peak with Jurassic Park, why do you ask? Because back then they were willing to put in hundreds of hours to impress you, now its quick, cheap and crappy. The CGI in the early movies was remarkable and most of it has aged very well (terminator 2 is showing its age with the liquid metal man, but regardless Jurassic Park is perfect) At least movies like the original TRON had charm due to their very odd looking CGI sequences but now a days its just copy/pasta effects for dummies...
