This is related to Fatima but not of great importance...just thought you might think it interesting and meaningful. My husband and I are both Catholics. We had both been brought up with stories of Fatima and my husband's mother was devoted to Our Lady of Fatima.
We were to be married in May of 2000 at our Jesuit parish. (I know many of you suspect the the Jesuits) We were trying to set up the wedding for a Saturday at noon an the only open time was Saturday, May 13, 2000. We were so caught up in wedding plans, we didn't realize that it was the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima. And, to our astonishment, the priest told us later in the vestry, that Cardinal Ratzinger had released the 3rd Secret of Fatima that day. (of course I don't think it was the real secret).
As Catholics, we took this as a blessing on our marriage and an example of synchronicity.
To my mother-in-law, age 93, her years of rosaries to the Blessed Virgin were fulfilled and her 47 year old son had finally married for the first time AND in the Church AND to another Catholic.
Can't wait to see the movie. I am obsessed with the whole Fatima story and the fact JPII was nearly killed on the 13th of May etc. |

TxGal, so basically you don't believe in the "man-made" tenets of the Catholic faith? This is what distresses me about the Catholic Church. I was lucky enough to have grown up in very good parish and gone to schools where the Sisters of Charities taught. The way my parents and the nuns taught the faith seems to be a far cry from other parishes. We were taught that the Canons of the Church were brought about due to man's interpretation of God's will. The Peace Prayer of St. Francis is ingrained in my core.
I am glad that you still have faith in God and that the poor encounters you experienced did not take that away. BTW, since moving away from that parish I have yet to find another such compassionate parish so I understand your "disenchantment" with the Church. |

Thank you that sums it up pretty nicely with one caveat.
I do not agree that anyone who does not believe in honoring Mary is following satan; I will not judge anyone nor condemn anyone. I truly believe that God is a loving and forgiving Father.
Now I will get flamed for the next statement as some will say I am not following the Catholic faith/being a hypocrite if I believe in Catholicism. I think anyone who believes in higher power (God) will be in Heaven. Yes, that means that Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Islamics (the ones who believe in a loving God), Native Americans, Mormons, etc will be in Heaven as long as their free will accepts God. In my humble opinion I believe that God came to these faiths and each CULTURE (meaning man) interpreted God according to their environment/culture. I wish I could fully expand on this thought but suffice to say, it really turns me off/makes me question someone's faith when they state that God will punish anyone who doesn't believe in their particular faith. To me that doesn't sound like a loving and forgiving God rather it sounds man made with an agenda.
OK, flame me for the above statements, I won't respond to the flamers as I will respect your opinion on what you believe and won't flame back.

I do not agree that anyone who does not believe in honoring Mary is following satan; I will not judge anyone nor condemn anyone. I truly believe that God is a loving and forgiving Father.
Now I will get flamed for the next statement as some will say I am not following the Catholic faith/being a hypocrite if I believe in Catholicism. I think anyone who believes in higher power (God) will be in Heaven. Yes, that means that Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Islamics (the ones who believe in a loving God), Native Americans, Mormons, etc will be in Heaven as long as their free will accepts God. In my humble opinion I believe that God came to these faiths and each CULTURE (meaning man) interpreted God according to their environment/culture. I wish I could fully expand on this thought but suffice to say, it really turns me off/makes me question someone's faith when they state that God will punish anyone who doesn't believe in their particular faith. To me that doesn't sound like a loving and forgiving God rather it sounds man made with an agenda.

Blessed Mother is sent by God (and SO is Jesus to chosen ones) to help gather His lost flock. And some of the miracles that have came from Medjugorie, Fatima, Guadalupe, Emmitsburg have brought many back to God. This is what satan DOES NOT WANT. |

I think we are all trying to share Mary is not exclusively

Heaven is our goal, the most important thing, yes. God
gives us helps to attain the goal, Mary is one of them.
You don't have to fight the spiritual battle with only
a couple of weapons you choose to recognize dear friend.
Say to yourself, "I'll go with it, change...take advise from my brothers and sisters in Christ. I will begin to speak to Our Lord's mother in prayer." What can it hurt you? Look at the fruit. I've got to stop saying that but I repeat and so do others because it is true.
I went to a place Mary appeared. I was dead. The walking
dead...in grave mortal sin but because she has been given
all graces to dispense and she is the spouse of the Holy
Spirit, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit for the first
time in my life!!

So pentacostal believes in the presence of God through the ability of speaking in tongues while a Bethel Baptist is more focused on more calvinistic daily practice ie women should wear skirts only..alcohol should not be taken,no dancing or card playing (all INTERPRETATIONS of Scripture-but the core of GODS message. Leviticus isn't lived by for example-or most of the TV evangelists would be stoned to death.
The bible does not say you have to belong to a congregation-give your weekly 10% TO THAT congregation or that you have to belong to any church, specifically. But people choose to believe what is culturally important to them and their families and communities.
For a fundamentalist community to pray for you is NO different than having the Blessed Virgin pray for you. "where two or more of you gather in my name-I will be there"
So those people with no one to pray for them, have the presence of Mary to pray as well.
Protestants engage in the "ritual" of their Sunday service-the same way Catholics do. You have music when you walk in-there are programs or bulletins, someone seats you-there is a greeting, music, collection of money, breaking of bread, the sermon, the psalms and the blessing and prayers of the congregation and the pastor. It follows a format, a structure-it is a ritual. Protestants don't believe in the rites or sacraments the mark the human lifespan-although they have them. Baptism, marriage, forgiveness-healing, funeral service.
It is the politics and the hypocracy of the Catholic Church and its history , like all religions that turn me off-not the Mass, the Blessed Virgin or the reading of scripture or GOD/Jesus.
