Lot was a Jew.
 Quoting: Wraithwynd

And to an extent Christians are too.
John 4

He warns us to test all teachings before accepting them

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

I think religion served it's purpose of building tribes/community and protecting it's members to some degree through a shared moral code, but I think it outgrew it's purpose in the last little while.

We've grown beyond religion and it's strict moral codes to realize that the way we enforce this morality (often brutally) to protect the majority is in itself immoral.

Majority rule has its own holes, not least of which is the tendency toward might makes right. Religion has given us (the religious and the non-religious) an arrogance and an entitlement that could see the end of diversity on the planet.

Which is to say, religion sprang from nature and our attempt to understand it, and morphed into a name it and claim it attitude that saw our environment strictly controlled with all the righteousness of a taliban fighter.

Religion has to go back to nature and lose some of its stories and their grip on our lives.

A god does not morality make...only empathy and kindness can do that. A god is neither the chicken nor the egg.

True Christians are those willing to die for not betraying their religion. I've seen in a video a Somali Christian convert beheaded die at the hands of Muslims. How many Christians are willing to die like that?
