THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO NOON EDT FRIDAY. A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH HAS ALSO BEEN ISSUED. THIS COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
SUSTAINED EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MILES PER HOUR OVER THE WATERS TONIGHT AND FRIDAY WILL RESULT IN BUILDING SEAS AND SURGE ALONG THE COAST. THIS... COUPLED WITH ASTRONOMICALLY HIGH TIDES IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE FRIDAY MORNING. AREAS ALONG THE SOUTHWESTERN COAST OF LONG ISLAND SOUND APPEAR MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS AT THIS TIME. THE POTENTIAL FOR MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING WILL REMAIN INTO THE WEEKEND AS A PERSISTENT LONG FETCH OF STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS REMAINS ACROSS THE AREA.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IMMINENT. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD BE ALERT FOR RISING WATER... AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.

I'm on the So Shore of Long Island, it's nasty out there. We'll see how bad it gets. Nor'easters typically do cause some beach erosion. I'm sure that they'll be serious problems out east, ie Fire Island, Hamptons etc. There's just not enough beach and too many homes in close proximity to the shore. Even in Summer, the water comes all the way up to the homes during a storm... |

Greedy homeowners ripped down all the old time bungalows on Fire Island and built McHampton Mansions. The last time I was there all I saw was bicycles and garbage cans. Two houses burned to the ground this week on Fire Island. I guess those were the ones that didn't get rented this summer for 50k. Then the Gubment is supposed to step in and build up the beach so they can build some more. Screw that sandbar and all the greedy fucks on it. |

Yesterday was a nice pleasant day around 55f degrees, today it rains all day long, heavy rain some times, now is freezing out side, still rains and the temperature is below 40s.
Is it Pole sifting takes place or we are moving away from the sun? |

Yes, Fire Island has changed. It is approx 15 separate communities; we go to the one most eastern, Davis Park. No frills: no cars, bikes or anything like the other more upscale areas. Very old school beach community. It is here where some of the homes on Dune Walk are vulnerable. During Hurricane Bill, which never came close, churning 100's of miles off shore, really did some damage. The power of the ocean is incredible...add wind and who knows... |

I'm in Westchester and it's pretty craptastic. It's cold and we had some light snow today. Most of the trees here are still green (only a few have leaves that have started to turn) and just last week I was so happy that it was October and the temps still in the 60's.
