The teenage son of a North Texas woman who was severely beaten with a baseball bat was in custody Tuesday, charged with aggravated assault while his mother fights for life at a Fort Worth Hospital.

JOSHUA (October 13, 2009)—Conner Lynn Troutt, 17, was in the Johnson County Jail Tuesday, charged with aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon in connection with an attack Monday afternoon that left his mother fighting for life in a Fort Worth Hospital.

Donna Martin Troutt, 51, was in critical condition Tuesday at John Peter Smith Hospital where she was taken Monday afternoon after deputies responded to a report of an assault in progress at a home in the 1600 block of County Road 706 in Joshua.

Outside the home, deputies found a baseball bat, which evidently was used in the attack.

The victim’s daughter told deputies that Conner Troutt was responsible for the attack and that he had fled.

The teenager was later involved in a traffic accident in Fort Worth and when police arrived he attempted to run and a vehicle struck him.

He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, as well.

After he was treated, he was released to deputies, who returned him to Johnson County.

Troutt’s bond is set at $150,000.

The sheriff’s office said Troutt has “a previous history with our agency,” but didn’t release additional details.
