USD was at 80....................now below 76

Short term fluctuations are irrelevant unless you are a day trader.
Quote one major fundamental that supports a strong dollar in the long term.
The US is essentially bankrupts, has a 1.5 trillion dollar annual budget deficit, a 700 billion dollar annual trade deficit, just doubled the national debt in a few months, has about 25 percent unemployment, several million houses in foreclosure, the largest commercial real estate lender just filed bankruptcy, and the fed is increasing the money supply to try to prevent total collapse.
If that instills you with confidence to predict any kind of major rally for the dollar, I wish you good luck. |

China has about 2 trillion dollars in foreign reserves. They are reported to be buying commodities and anything else that might have value. It is entirely possible that they are supporting it until they turn as much of their dollar holdings as they can into hard assets. |

That figure is the latest in a steady stream I've been hearing from MSM. Has anyone really checked to see a) the balance of those reserves, b) the USD portion therein, and c) of what duration.
You are correct, they've been buying things of tangible value with their excess reserves. But they've also been steadily dumping longer term bonds in favor of shorter term ones.
I'm not sure anyone really knows their reserve breakdown, and I certainly don't trust any figures coming out of our government.
Imagine our surprise to wake up one day soon to find out China's exposure to USD is a shadow of what it once was and/or seeing China write off what little remains. |

Actually I've made alot of money using traders information. I would have to say that about 80% of the time he is right. Yes he is wrong sometimes but and 80% track record is this kind of market means he's probably the richest person here. Laughing all the way to the bank. Or should I say the gold stash in his safe. |

Rates mixed at weekly Treasury auction

WASHINGTON — Interest rates on six-month Treasury bills rose for the second straight week in Monday's auction after nearly two months of record-lows, while rates on three-month bills fell.
The Treasury Department auctioned $29 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 0.075 percent, down from 0.080 percent last week. It was the lowest level since those bills averaged 0.070 percent two weeks ago.
Another $30 billion in six-month bills was auctioned at a discount rate of 0.185 percent, up from 0.170 percent last week. It was the highest level since those bills averaged 0.190 percent three weeks ago. It also marked the second straight week that rates on six-month bills rose after nearly two months of lows not seen during the half-century the government has been issuing the bills weekly.
But both three-and six-month bills remain at historically low levels, as the recession has cut demand for credit among consumers and businesses. The low rates also reflect a move by the Federal Reserve to keep a key short-term interest rate at a record low in an effort to jump-start economic activity.
The discount rates reflect the Treasury bills auctioned Monday sold for less than face value. For a $10,000 bill, the three-month price was $9,998.10, while a six-month bill sold for $9,990.65. That would equal an annualized rate of 0.076 percent for the three-month bills, and 0.188 percent for the six-month bills.
Separately, the Federal Reserve said Monday that the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, a popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, rose to 0.39 percent last week from 0.36 percent the previous week.
